How many Sikhs did you meet when you were in the middle east for those six years? For the record, I never called you ignorant as I generally let folks rise on their own merits or sink based on their deficiencies. If you’re unable to distiguish beteen a Muslim and Sikh, it does make one wonder.

Keep posting though. It’s interesting to read your thoughts.

  • @THE-MONK

Just sayin’ the truth Monk. If we automatically reject everything Anglo, I ‘spect I’ll have to stop using English and pick up Choctaw or Sioux to use in my posts. The Brits have been there with Sikhs long before we began to address the subject. I‘m not silly enough to assume that the English are always wrong simply because we split with ’em 2+ centuries ago.

That simplistic method of dismissing fact paints one into a very small and lonely corner.

  • @Fried

If you want to live a long life, don’t make the mistake of telling a Sikh that he/she is a Muslim. It will not turn out well for you, unless you can make a really good case that you’re too uneducated/retarded to know the difference.

As always, Google is your friend.

  • It is interesting how many posters, on this subject, actually think that Sikhs are Muslims. Other than their towering ignorance of religions, these folks are at risk due to their lack of knowledge.Sikhs have never been Muslims. In fact, the reason Sikhs exist as the world’s newest religion, has much to do with the invasion of northern India centuries ago. Sikhs are the kind of person you want to make friends with.

Helpful hint: Don’t ever call a Sikh (male or female), a Muslim. HE/SHE will kill you.

As to beards and turbans, the exception to uniform standardization has already been established in Britain. The policy was helped by the fact that Sikh officers are acknowledged to be excellent (if not superior) law enforcement officers, due in no small part based on their higher level of education. Because of this, they have their own uniform standards. The Brits figure the uniform exception is a fair trade, if it allows them to serve on the force.

    GO SIKHS !!!

  • Toshiba is planning on selling their 4S model commercially. I’m not sure where their plans stand after the earthquake though. Google the Toshiba 4S and see what you come up with. Seems like I heard costs of 5 cents/kwh, at one time.

  • ‘The First Gay President’

Wow! Talk about a dubious addition to the resume.

  • No, we Protestants also believe in free will. We’re not as different as you might think. Now Calvinism is a completely different matter, and they do come down heavily on the side of predestiny.

Rest assured that we’re big advocates of the free will concept in the post-Luther spinoffs. :-)

  • The young lady is confusing Catholicism with Calvinism. To the uneducated, they sound kind of the same, but a bit of honest homework will disclose their disctinctions.

My best advise, is for her to stay in school, and consider a different major. Perhaps, when (if) she graduates, she’ll be educated enough to grasp the differences.

  • “These experts have concluded global warming is not man made?”

So what you’re implying is that it was “Saurian Caused Global Warming” rather than human caused. And since the dinosaurs are now dead, we won’t have to worry anymore.

I can sleep well tonight, and with a high tomorrow in the mid-40′s, I can turn on all three of the gas fireplaces, and turn up the forced air furnace as well. Time to warm up the electric blanket I‘m thinkin’. Sleep tight!

  • You could still acquire one of these, but the cost of renovation is still going to be huge. If you really want a bunker, think about a really big septic tank (seriously). You can get really large ferrous concrete ones, 20-30,000 gal versions are commonly available from manufacturers. Lots of folks use them for tornado shelters out in the midwest. Stairways are easily added to the design, and it’s no problem to install additional entrances and conduits.

They are relatively inexpensive, stressed to handle the earth loads of being underground (which are not inconsequential), and can be easily delivered by semi-trailer(s). If it can keep the sewage from seeping out, it can certainly keep the outside water from seeping in. If you need more room, just string a bunch of them together. Your budget is your limit, but it will still beat what you’d have to come up with to renovate one of the old Atlas silos. I’ve inspected those, but they leak…..a lot. In my estimation, there’s really no point in going as deep as the Atlas missile silo(s). Each Atlas installation I’m familiar with had two silos, side by side, one for the missile and another for the command capsule. They made great scuba diving sites as they filled up with water. If they left the top slammed shut you had 100 ft of clear water to dive in as they had decades to fill with ground water. It was always a night dive though, so not a lot of folks were interested in it.
