Britain, ‘Austerity,’ and the Lessons of Economic History

There is so little cash in banks, a run on the banks should be impossible if you define a run as cashing out your balance. They can electronically transfer your balance somewhere but that leaves you in the same place you were unless you change to a more stable currency.
Should Children as Young as Five Years Old be Branded ‘Fledgling Psychopaths’?
May 14, 2012 at 6:00pm
How do you force someone to have empathy or act normal? I think force is the operative word because they don’t have a natural ability or urge to have empathy. It would probably be easier to acclimate someone to public nudity. It seems that a lack of empathy may be associated with an obsession with self gratification or the self in general. The failure to eliminate bullying shows how this is not an easy task. Concern about the welfare of others is a Christian doctrine and fundamental. Maybe the curse of the psychopath is just a natural and logical consequence of degrading the importance of Christianity. Every generation has its psychopaths but only in a generation where people feel comfortable writing their own rules that suit them the best would there be heightened awareness of the psychopath completely agreeing with normalizing their own deviant behavior.
72-Year-Old Suing City of Austin for Seizing His Home and Condemning It for Building Fallout Shelter

I would have a problem with him tunneling off of the property. I wonder what the emergency was that caused the city to act so precipitously. If there was a stability problem, it could have been solved a lot cheaper than just pouring the hole full of concrete. I think they would have a problem in a jury trial over this. If we don’t have the right to protect ourselves from real or imaginary threats.. what right do we have to exist? Does only the government have the right to defend society from remote dangers like Gorebal Warming?
N.J. Axes Test Question Requiring 3rd Graders to Reveal a Personal Secret
May 14, 2012 at 9:23am
The biggest problem with this is the probability that the child would have an unfounded fear or secret based on imperfect memory or knowledge. My step son always “knew” that his mother has Nazi diamonds that came home with his grandfather after WWII. It is funny now since his grandfather was a prisoner of war. The story was confabulated with fragments of gossip about stolen diamonds in Chicago. Then there are the ones that make things up just to get through the test faster. Decades of deviation from the prime motivation of teaching basics and getting children ready for the real world instead of the perfect world that will be eventually created by secular man continues to plague this country. The answered questions would be great for research into a Steven King thriller or even as the premise of a Steven King Thriller. The only problem is that when the state gets involved with your life, don’t expect anything good to come out of it, especially if they are wrong. What does the school do with knowledge of a secret stack of bug out money, food, illegal fire arms like a 410 pistol that can not be registered but is still a treasured hand-me-down? There is a definite sense of mission creep in the teaching profession.

Better Late Than Never: AP Apologizes For Firing Reporter Who Broke News of Nazi Surrender
May 6, 2012 at 10:06am
AP is worthless. When are they going to let the people know about the hoax called Global Warming? The people have the right to know about the end of the war but not about the greatest international hoax on the planet? If it took this long to cough up an apology to a lone reporter, how long will it take to apologize to the millions that were duped by the socialist elite in their quest for the perfect climate controlled planet? AP has a long history of being leftest even on the local level. Their reporting of the massive public demonstrations at the Tennessee capitol following a threat to start a state income tax was mostly non-existent and mostly concentrating on those who demanded it “for the children.”

Paint it with asphalt if you are going to do that but I agree a shipping container might not be a good idea.

You don’t see many basements where there is high ground water or solid rock. I only know of one building in Miami that has a basement and it was built on a mound of sand placed before construction so that the basement floor remained over the water table.
