  I m not a supporter of Bachman,but her answer is right. Gay couples are awarded the same rights as non gay couples. Legally, marriage is between a woman and a man. Marriage is not a right, so the question is a legal question, and that is why it differs by state. The elements of marriage is based on religion, which is then becomes an issue of church and state. As a “real conservative” marriage, and civil unions are the same and should be recognized legally, and laws should afford both the same health benefits, and such…. Personally I think the Gay community should look at it as a legal issue, and abandon the rights issue. It is only when they are discriminated does it become a rights issue, and that is judged on a case basis.
