  • An open letter to Congressman Alan Grayson
    Sir,
I heard your comment about the 8/28 attendees wearing sheets over our heads 25 years ago and must respond. Obviously a reference to the klan, I am personally offended by the racist intent of this remark. On your website, the biography page begins with a quote, “Justice, justice, ye shall seek.” Deuteronomy, chapter 16, verse 20

This is an interesting quote for someone who accuses me of wearing a sheet. Dare I say as a man of FAITH you should re-read the chapter before making such accusations. Your biography points out the trials and tribulations that you overcame to make a success of yourself. It also shows the pride you take in having done this with the HOPE, help and sacrifices of your parents. It continues by referring to the Alliance for Aging Research, a private non-profit group that you started out of your personal CHARITY.

I sir, did not have the courage to march with Doctor King that day although old enough to attend. I was in complete support and agreement with the goals that he set forth that day. I did however, work to convenience everyone I knew that the government was the way we would bring peace and justice to the land. Many years later I realized that true justice and peace comes from the heart of each one of us doing the will of God. If I wore a sheet over my head it was the same sheet which you now appear to wear.

That sheet is the failure to see that our God is calling all of us to be righteous people who stand together in recognition of Him and His place in our lives.

You as a congressman who promises, again from your biography, “and furthermore, with a quarter century of experience in how the Government spends its money, Alan can help to direct more of that money to Central Florida, where we need it.” certainly seem to be one who thinks that a select few, or modern day pharisees, who work through a supreme government are the savior of the people.

As I reflect on the events of 8/28/2010, which I did attend, an amazing connection to your selected quote is obvious. The Restore Honor event occurred during the weekly “Shabbat” candle remembrance which is commanded by the Lord in the very chapter of the Bible you select your quote from. This corresponds to the two commandments of “Remember the Sabbath” (Exodus 20,8) and “Observe the Sabbath” (Deuteronomy 5,12). The prayer, said with eyes covered, that accompanies this is; “Blessed are You, Lord our G-d, King of the universe, Who has hallowed us through His commandments, and has commanded us to kindle the lights of the holy Shabbat.” Uncover your eyes and behold the Shabbat lights. Or as our Jewish brothers say it “Baruch A-tah Ado-nai E-lo-hei-nu Me-lech Ha-olam A-sher Ki-de-shan-nu Be-mitz-vo-tav Ve-tzi-va-nu Le-had-lik Ner Shel Shabbat Ko-desh.”

The verses that precede and follow your quote are equally interesting, preceding from verses,
12 “Remember that you too were once slaves in Egypt, and carry out these statutes carefully”
    and then
16 “Three times a year, then, every male among you shall appear before the LORD, your God, in the place which he chooses: at the feast of Unleavened Bread, at the feast of Weeks, and at the feast of Booths (Shabbat) . No one shall appear before the LORD empty-handed, 17 but each of you with as much as he can give, in proportion to the blessings which the LORD, your God, has bestowed on you.
18 “You shall appoint judges and officials throughout your tribes to administer true justice for the people in all the communities which the LORD, your God, is giving you.
19 You shall not distort justice; you must be impartial. You shall not take a bribe; for a bribe blinds the eyes even of the wise and twists the words even of the just.
Then then verse from which you choose to quote,
20 Justice and justice alone shall be your aim, that you may have life and may possess the land which the LORD, your God, is giving you.
This is then followed by two very curious verses,
    21 “You shall not plant a sacred pole of any kind of wood beside the altar of the LORD, your God, which you will build;
22 nor shall you erect a sacred pillar, such as the LORD, your God, detests.
Some scholars think these verses are more connected with Exodus 34:13 “Tear down their altars; smash their sacred pillars, and cut down their sacred poles.” These verses appear to refer to the sacred poles of “Ashera” a Canaanite goddess. In her honor wooden poles (asherot) were erected, just as stone pillars (massebot) were erected in honor of the god Baal. Both were placed near the altar in a Canaanite shrine.

Exodus chapter 34 itself reveals the story of how the Commandments were renewed after the breaking of the tablets. How Moses pleaded on behalf of a stiff necked people and the Lord’s reply, “Here, then, is the covenant I will make. Before the eyes of all your people I will work such marvels as have never been wrought in any nation anywhere on earth, so that this people among whom you live may see how awe-inspiring are the deeds which I, the LORD, will do at your side.

One last reference to the scripture is from the very same Exodus 34:33, “when he finished speaking with them, he put a veil over his face.” St. Paul sees in this a symbol of the failure to recognize the promised Messiah. Perhaps this is the sheet you refer to?

You sir have made manifest the very word of God that spells out the meaning and purpose of the Restoring Honor event. Praise be the Lord. I will continue to pray that the sheet is lifted from everyone’s head.
    God Bless America,

  • This is just another proof that these people are afraid of Glenn Beck because he speaks the truth. God Bless America!
