  • Can you provide evidence that the process does zero harm to the environment? I am interested in seeing your statement backed up with evidence and facts.

    I question you and your logic. I Provided 100% verifiable information, and came to the conclusion that we as Americans have every right to be concerned about chemicals being purposfully pumped into the ground with not one fact saying it is a safe process.

  • So let me see if I have this correct:
    Using the state of Pennsylvania as an example,
    Number of fracking wells drilled since 2007 = 4,000<
    Amount of water used during a frac job: Between 3.5 & 5.5 million (Chesapeake Energy averages 4.5 mil per well)
    4,000(3,500,000) = 14 billion gallons of high quality h20
    Fracturing proponent: .02% of ingredients used are chemicals
    Just a “few” of the chemicals used during a frac job, along with their their exposure effects:
    Glutaraldehyde – Seizures and CNS depression in animal testing. Irritation to the gastrointestinal tract. Symptoms: nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. May cause chemical burns of the mouth, throat, esophagus and stomach; discomfort or pain in the chest and abdomen. Aspiration into the lungs may occur during swallowing or vomiting, resulting in lung damage.

    Quaternary Ammonium Chloride: May cause severe and permanent damage to the digestive tract. Causes gastrointestinal tract burns.

    Tetrakis Hydroxymethyl-Phosphonium Sulfate: Symptoms of exposure to this compound include hypotension and general poisoning.

    Magnesium Oxide: TOXIC; inhalation, ingestion, or skin contact with material may cause severe injury or death. Effects of contact or inhalation may be delayed.

    Tetramethyl ammonium chloride: Known carcinogen – TOXIC

    So pumping billions of gallons of water into the earth containing these (and many more) chemicals has absolutely no effect on the environment and is safe?

  • CATB: Whoa there with the conspiracies you silly kitty you. Mr. Buffet doesn’t own a Canadian railroad. He has invested in it, long before the thought of Keystone, and the postponement of the project may allow him to make a little more money, but that is simply Capitalism, is it not?

    Your comment, and then the comments from the “birthers” gave me quite a good laugh this morning. Keep them coming kids! Just when I thought half of you couldn’t be any crazier, you have once again confirmed stupidity really has no limit.

    Homework assignment: Check on the Koch brother’s purchase of a course within the Economics department at Florida State University. It seems a nice little donation can get you the ability to hand pick who teaches your course, as well as the content of said. Kind of sounds like indoctrination to me.

  • President Obama Rejects Keystone XL Oil Pipeline

    January 20, 2012 at 11:45am

    In reply to DeeezNuttz.

    We don’t need to, nor will we draw off the pipeline. Canada currently has EXCESS pipeline capacity. They cannot produce enough oil to fill the lines that are currently in place that travel to the US.

    I’m trying my hardest to put this in terms to make it easy to understand:

    1. ALL of the Candian oil that travels to the US goes to mid-west refineries, not in foreign trade zones, meaning the US is the sole buyer of that oil

    2. XL will travel to foreign trade zones and will be refined and sold to foreign countries/companies.

    3. There are no 20,000 jobs. There are no 10,000 jobs. There may be 4-5 thousand temporary, low paying construction jobs. Most of them will last no longer than 6 months. Once the pipeline is built and fully functional, the amount of jobs directly related to the pipeline is in the upper hundreds.

    4. The pipeline will have no effect on the lowering of gas prices. The product shipped through XL is used mostly for diesel. It is expected that it may raise diesel prices because Canada will now be able to sell at world-market prices (higher prices) now that they are recieving more foreign bids.

    5. Canada wants to diversify their energy market, the KEY STATED PURPOSE of XL. If they wanted to sell to China, they already could. They don’t.

    6. It’s basic supply and demand people.
    For Canadian oil:
    Supply = High
    Demand = Low
    Price for Canadian oil = Low (US can “name their price” as we buy 97% of the oil)
    Build XL:
    Supply = High

  • Man o man you people are really idiots aren’t you? Keep up with me here:
    The lie:
    Jobs: “… expected to directly create more than 20,000 high-wage manufacturing jobs and construction jobs in 2011-2012 across the U.S.”

    The Facts:
    1. 20,000 is highly inflated. Oh, and in “person years.”
    The real number of actual jobs is closer to 3,500-4,000 (which is TransCanada’s own number, developed from “undisclosed” data) over the entire period of construction. Most of them will be part-time, 6 months or less types of positions. Many of them may be construction “contractors” shipped in from all over, living in “company towns” (kind of like FEMA trailers bunched together).
    2. “…high-wage manufacturing and construction jobs”
    These are not “high-wage” jobs. Many of them will be low-paying, hard manual labor, temporary, construction jobs. I not sure what “manufacturing” jobs they are referring to as the steel for the actual pipeline isn’t manufactured in America. Sandwich manufacturing at Subway?

    The lie:
    “…will reduce dependence on foreign oil.”

    The Facts:
    1. The oil will travel to refineries in foreign trade zones located on the Gulf Coast. Meaning the XL Pipeline will be used to ship foreign oil (Canada is foreign, right?) through (not to) the US to foreign trade zones, which will then be sold to FOREIGN BUYERS. The best part? Foreign trade zones are exempt from paying US taxes.

    Conservatives are some of the dumbest acting people alive. It’s as if they somehow believe they are vicariously living through the liars and thieves they cast their vote for and every time the conservatives win THEY win something.

    Sorry. That made me laugh. It’s as if we were thinking the EXACT same thing! Who woulda thunk?

  • So let me get this straight:

    If a few muslum marines decided to erect a giant islamic symbol of their choice to honor fellow fallen marines, who were of the islamic faith, on federal land, lets say hypothetically, Ft. Hood, none of you would be opposed right?

    If you would be opposed, on what basis?

  • Sweety: ACORN does not exist.

    Not exist = ACORN = WMD’s in Iraq.

    Get it through your head.

    Hillbilly.

  • Right. Animal Farm? Seriously. A work of fiction, from 30 years ago?

    Idiot.
