  • I have served with several gay troops. In general, they are indistinguishable from their straight comrades as far as duty performance. Most of us knew and did not give a rat’s ass about it. But, there are significant issues involved in ending DADT.

The point that civilians and members of the more “civilized” branches of the military don’t get is that when “openly” gay service personnel are allowed it means that we have situations where persons who are, or potentially may be, sexually interested in us are in our personal space. And we have to acknowledge this fact.

The Air Force, as an example, have very nice space and privacy requirements for their personnel. Private sleeping and bathing facilities are required. In the Infantry you will be sharing open bathroom facilities, crowded sleeping areas and you will be intimately exposed to your comrades.

It is standard operating procedure to do things like tick checks of your buddy in wooded areas where you are bedding down. That means your buddy looks at your back and backside for ticks, because you can’t see there. Because of concerns about sexual harassment and common decency, that means your buddy is of the same sex as you. There are many similar activities which are required and are gender separated for the same reason.

How would you like to be forced to share a shower area, with no separate stalls or curtains, with a person of the opposite sex as a condition of employment? Same for latrines? Bedding areas? The point is that, even if you suspect a soldier is gay, if that fact is in question you can deal with the forced intimacy. If you know for a fact that you are an object of sexual interest, things get real uncomfortable real fast.

DADT is not just a matter of changing policy and forgetting about it. A change in the policy will require a change in the way we do business and that will require a sober and thoughtful approach. If DADT is just changed without proper review and accommodation you can be sure that the number of sexual harassment complaints and incidents are going to seriously impact readiness states.

Like most things, DADT is not a simple black and white issue. Sorry to dash anyones illusions as to how things work in the real world.

  • Democrat/media push (again) to do away with the Electoral College in 3, 2, 1….

Watch for it, they will throw up BS arguments (One Person, One Vote; Democracy!, Fairness, etc.) so they can win the White House with four metros and a following wind, forever after. “Screw those country rubes, they aren’t really people like us sophisticated urbanites.”

  • Something that came to mind when I heard that Fox is going to expand his role:

When Greta came to Fox from CNN it seemed pretty apparent over the first few months that she seemed more relaxed and more thoughtfully liberal. She started asking more questions that were relevant instead of liberal talking points. My conclusion was that by moving to Fox she had left a leftist echo chamber and was now feeling free to ask the “ugly” (to leftist thought) questions in search of real answers. The appearance was that she was moving to the middle, but I suspect that she was actually being freed to think, question and hear opposing views presented fairly. I went from not liking her work much to appreciating her for asking honest questions and calling out people for trying to spew talking points instead of answering the question.

I suspect that Fox was having a similar effect on Juan and that is NOT acceptable to the most closed-minded, group-think, intolerant ideology in the world: Modern Liberalism. I expect that people‘s respect for Juan will grow as he recovers from this insult and realizes that he doesn’t have to guard against being financially injured for questioning the leftist orthodoxy too aggressively. Juan is a liberal and I doubt he will become a conservative, but I think he WILL be able to show himself to be rational, honest and intelligent man that he is.

  • Double Standards: Are Obama Supporters Racist?

    In reply to RightPolitically.

I want you to consider something for a moment: If someone you went to school with, someone you have known all your life got a really important job, wouldn’t you feel motivated to think him or her well? African-Americans see BHO in that context. He is “one of them” and he’s “done good”, they want to see him succeed.

Over the years, I have spoken to many people who are from minority populations who can tell you every actor, politician, athlete, etc. that is from their group. They are proud of the accomplishments of someone “like them”, whether they agree with them or not. It is no different than you or I bragging about someone from our neighborhood or village who ended up being famous or successful. Just because a schmo like us “did good” doesn’t mean we agree with them.

What we need to do as conservatives is reach out to our like-minded friends in the African-American Community and empower them to support the candidates who really are looking out for their best interests: Namely, conservatives. The overwhelming victims of urban crime are African-Americans, the overwhelming victims of anti-business government policies are, arguably, African-Americans who can neither find work nor start businesses in their communities because of failed liberal policies.

When African-Americans finally figure out that the progressives see them as just more stupid people to be manipulated for progressive gains, they will finally start to free themselves from the second slavery that was forced upon them by political opportunists.

  • The MSM will do one of the following:
    1) If turn out is light, they will ignore it. The Victim Groups will claim this proves the evil of the Jewish run media and the campaign to silence their message.
    2) If turn out is light, the MSM will selectively crop their video and stills to make it look like there were more people than there were and use the claimed attendance of the organizers as an accurate attendance figure.
    3) Under no circumstances will the MSM show the “diversity” of the attendees. You will NOT see in any of the coverage the anti-semitic, racist and anti-American signs and t-shirts worn by many of the attendees.
    4) Reports of violence and arrests will be suppressed, and if cornered the media will claim that the violence was not relevant.

If you have never seen what really goes on at anti-war and left wing rallies go over to http://www.zombietime.com/ and look at the exposes that Zombie has done at so many rallies. He has some great contrasts between what the MSM shows and what really happens. I hope Fox will give this the same amount of coverage as it gave 8/28 so America can see the difference and choose which side matches their values.

  • MI Child Care Workers Sue to Break From Union

    September 13, 2010 at 11:33pm

The left used to have a slogan: Keep the government out of my bedroom! Their new slogan: I want Government EVERYWHERE in my life but my bedroom.

  • Something to think about is that as a liberal you can watch Fox News without being called names and demeaned as stupid and ignorant by the hosts and reporters. I think my record on MSNBC was thirty seconds before a host called a belief I held racist, homophobic, fascist or the like. Fox is definitely more civil and professional.

  • That is a great example of what the power of the MSM really is: They never give that bit of context. As biased as they are, they do their worst damage by what they don’t tell us.

The dems argue that President Bush caused spending (and the deficit) to skyrocket (leaving out the dem congress’ role in those budgets) and then ignore President Obama and his congress’ quadrupling of that spending and deficit. Actual journalists and reporters would call them on this dishonesty, but the MSM will say not a word.

The MSM are leftists and they do their damnedest not to report anything that would put the party they support in a bad light. When they do, it is after someone else has broken the story and they can’t not report it without losing what little credibility they have left.

  • You have named that which must not be named, Holly. What you are describing is what makes it impossible for me to watch or listen to the leftist talking heads: The elitist, hubristic world view.

The left believe that they are somehow smarter and more enlightened than the unwashed masses. They have no respect for the people of this country and believe that it is their role to guide and educate the ignorant masses to allow them and people like them to run our lives. After all, we are too stupid to know what is in our best interests, so we need them to take care of us.

When you listen to leftist and progressive “leaders” listen to how they make their points. It is always in a condescending manner. The president believes in Marxist theory and is surrounded by like minded advisors, as the Beckster has been so kind to prove again and again. Hand in hand with that ideological bent is a belief that government has to be all-powerful to force the ignorant populace to get with the program. (But this time it will be OK, because it’s them that are doing it. They won’t screw up like the Russians, Germans, Cubans, North Korean, etc. did.)

The leftists and progressives believe they are doing what they are doing for the public good. They are not, for the most part, in it for the power. They actually have convinced themselves that statism can be harnessed for good. Most of their supporters are not steeped in the Marxist theory and do not understand the grand plan, they buy into the emotionally charged arguments that the leaders want to help people, and anyone who opposes them is evil. That is why the left react emotionally to any opposition to their policies: The faithful believe that their policies will help make the world fairer and any opposition to that is just mean and incomprehensible. None of them can conceive of the idea that putting too much power in the hands of their leaders could turn out very badly.

I have never understood how people on the left can so correctly identify the risks and downside of huge corporations yet not realize that those same risks and downsides apply to all human endeavors, government for example.

  • FL Cops: Manual on How to Molest Children Is Legal

    In reply to DanniDee.

I have to wonder, though, how a book that instructed how to assassinate judges and politicians would be received by the courts. At what point does the right of free speech cross the boundary into inciting to commit an offense? You can write a novel about assassinating the President, there was one about doing just that to President Bush by one of our compassionate and peace loving liberal friends a few years ago, but a manual on how to go about it… Something tells me that the Secret Service would be all over that.
