  • Having experienced Katrina, I can completely understand peoples misgivings towards the city of New Orleans. There are many correlations between the two tragedies, such as the utter destruction of entire areas. Here’s where the similarities bifurcate; the hours after the tornados ended people were able to begin the process of cleaning, clearing and salvaging their personnal property. It was this time after Katrina when the majority of the destruction took place, as the levees broke in 4 places swamping the majority of the city in 8-12 feet of water and nowhere for it to go. Then came hurricane Rita which skirted the Louisiana coast, but dumped another several inches of water into the fish bowl.
It took approximately four weeks to pump the water out of the flooded areas. All the while the only people allowed to enter the region were residents returning, National Guardsmen and vehicles bringing in necessary supplies (fuel and food stuffs). The people making the news were there because they believed help would be readily available and if the levees had not given way it would not have been needed in N.O., but mother nature had different ideas.
Imaging searching for victims with boats and cutting thru roofs to gain access to the attics where the bodies had floated up to. Or searching the houses after the water receded to find the bodies several weeks old.
May God Bless the peoples who were involved and grant them peace of mind and comfort for their losses.

  • Riverdog, I believe he meant to say Christianity. You may not have realised how correct your statement is. The help shooting RPG‘s at church’s is none other than our government in the form of regulations which force these religious organizations to be forced to adopt this administration’s belief system (usually called a religion). Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof. Thus, when the federal government makes laws that force religious institutions to adhere to policies they expressly abhor and teach the opposite sure does seem like an attack on those religions. If you want your government to determine how religious institutions act may I suggest you visit N. Korea, China or Iran. If you like it there may I suggest a relocation there.

  • Cyclists have the same right to the road as you, period. Now, this does not mean they should impede the flow of traffic unless they have no choice and even then they should try to stay as close to the shoulder as safety permits. Most cyclists hate riding on busy streets or in traffic, but obviously you believe you are so much more important than anybody on a bike. I bet you believe the cyclist should run off the road whenever you approach and avert their eyes so as to not insult you. Think back to your post the next time a semi cuts you off or passes you up when its raining and overwhelms your windshield wipers.

  • Kinda like the actions of the bus driver, right?

  • What if Mr. Mead could not afford a vehicle and used the bike as his means of transportation. All throughout college my bike was my car and I would travel on any given day 30 to 40 miles. You feel inconvienenced or put out by a cyclist, oh the humanity!! A true cyclist will follow the rules of the road and that means riding in the same direction as traffic along with the same rules as vehicles. I do understand there are many folks on bikes who disregard the rules of the road, but having been hit several times by vehicles pulling out from side streets and running into a few others who passed me up and abruptly turned in front of me could allow me to make the same pathetic arguement. I was blessed as to never get seriously injured, but purchasing new parts for my bike was a hassle and expensive.

This bus driver made a deliberate act to hit him and cudos to the cyclist for his response. Having ridden the bus and ridden a bike on the same streets, I can assert with much confidence many bus drivers believe they own the road and despise having to share it with anyone (car or bike).

Patience is a virtue and unfortunately our society is becoming less virtuous every day. God’s speed.

  • Girlie, you are correct to state they have a right to peacefully protest according to our constitution. They, however, do not have the right to protest on private property, nor do they have a right to interrupt inter/intrastate commerce. Follow the rules and/or get the proper permit, otherwise suffer the consequences for breaking the law.

  • Poverty, it sure is nice bringing up Mosaic law, but for Christians Jesus’ words are now the standard. Thus, give unto Caesar that which is Caesars‘ and give unto God that which is Gods’. Hint: man has laws that need to be followed even as a Christian. Jesus did say that we should “do unto others as you would have them do unto you”. I am not advocating for his life or death, but only for the word from my savior.

  • JZS, he only stated that Obama spoke an incomplete truth. He emphasized how Obama refused to accept any claim to the current economic environment. He obviously did not disagree with the history within the speech, but only pointed out Obama’s inability to be a man and accept responsibility for his actions/policies which have been enacted via Congressional vote and Presidential Directive. How Obama tries to be one of the masses as he assails the “rich”, all the while enjoying the life of the “rich” who he panders for campaign contributions. I believe he is too polite to call this presidency what it really is, nothing but smoke and mirrors.

    In reply to Baikonur.

I believe it is, we have the right to “life”, “liberty” and the “pursuit of happiness”. Since when does this mean we are entitled to free education, free medical care, all the food you want and/or a decent wage. We have the right to pursue a living and if that means working two or three jobs to achieve a “comfortable” living, then do it. Otherwise, do not and stop complaining about those who do. Education when those words were written was usually from your family or if lucky enough to live in an area that could afford to pay for a teacher at the school. Formal schooling ended by age 12/13 so you could help with the family farm/business. Your ability to purchase food is a direct relationship as to how much you are willing to work/earn. You do not want to work for free, so do not expect for anyone else to do it either, thus no free health care.
Having someone else work and then taking away their earnings so you can give it to those unwilling (not incapable) to work is paramount to making the worker an indentured servant of the recipients. Andrew Wilkow

  • Atheism is a religion. They just do not believe in any type of higher being to praise. Thus, what they are trying to accomplish is forcing their religion on everyone who is not an atheist. I, for one, do not want to have to adhere to their zealous religious fanaticism.
