  • They really don’t have anything to do with it at all. They are an ancient pagan tradition that has been commercialized for profit. Furthermore, every evergreen tree in the world does not become a “Christmas tree” simply because it is December.

  • Exactly what perversion do you mean?

  • Prove to me that this promotes exclusively gay sex.

  • As a devout Christian, I have to say that I agree with FFR on this one. America has freedom of religion, but we also have separation of church and state, which means that religious symbols cannot legally be placed on government land.

  • Excuse me, but why are you assuming that it is only gay people who will take the condoms? Do you think sex between a man and a woman is abnormal then, also?

And before you condemn this group on the assumption that they are gay, perhaps you should stop and read again where the group is described as the Gay-Straight Alliance. This is not a club for gay students only. It’s a club that is open to anyone and everyone who is interested. If you do some research on the organization rather than flaming them without even thinking, you’ll see that the club raises awareness about many different issues, including, but not limited to, sexuality, AIDS, domestic violence, and human rights.

  • I am a student at W&J and a devout Christian and would like to say that this issue is being misrepresented. The tree is sitting on a table to the left of a desk in the lobby of the HUB. Less than ten feet away in a much more prominent position is a magnificent Christmas tree which is the obvious focal center of the room. I sat in the lobby today and watched a several groups of prospective students and their families walked through the room without even noticing that this tree was there. The alternative AIDS awareness poster is not, in fact, in a separate location but rather on the immediate right of the desk by the tree. At most, the two displays are six feet apart from each other. There have been meeting between the organizations in dispute here, and the GSA has removed the open condom at the top of the tree. However, even after compromising on this issue, the group is now being threatened with action by an attorney.
Another misrepresentation is that the GSA is a “gay club” as referenced in this article’s title. This is simply not the case. The group promotes itself as “An organization made up of people from all over the sexual orientation spectrum who are working to build tolerance and awareness for issues based on gender, sexuality, human rights and more”
A final point is that the on-campus opposition of this display is, in reality, less that ten people. While I believe they have the right to protest, I also believe that the facts should be accurately repr
