  Why use the koran as the text — it’s written in a peculiar dialect of medieval Meccan Arabic that has not been in use for centuries. Most Arabs can’t really read and understand the koran because of its obscure language. Nearly all non-Arab muslims cannot read or understand it either. They memorize the sounds of it, but they can’t tell you “what’s in there.”
