  The quote attributed to Thomas Jefferson is incorrect. The sign should be removed for falsly attributing this comment to Jefferson.
  Reportedly, this comment came from a letter from Jefferson to Carr. The link is here: there is no such comment. Rather, Jefferson supports religion and asks Carr to read various passages from the bible.

  Some random internet source claimed it was a statement by james madison to william bradford. I then went and read those letters and did not find this statement but not sure that I found all the letters.

  Various quote collections state this phrase is from unknown person.

  Since this sign is on public property and its historical claim is highly innaccurate and offensive, it should be removed.
