  Marriage was a religious “rite” for centuries. The inequality in the law is a function of the states licensing marriage the state is the one that creates inequality. Contract law would say any two people can enter into a contract where they give the other ALL the rights or privileges currently given to married couples. Civil unions would accomplish this however in this case a minority wants to change the culture of the majority in spite of all historical evidence. Dont call it Marriage call it a Lot’s wife contract.
