I work for a local school district – I am not a member of the union – but I am a fair share fee payer (that means I still have to pay dues). The difference is once a year I can file an objection to having a portion of the dues I pay used for “non-chargeable” items, i.e. political and ideological contributions). The result is that I recieve an “advanced rebate” on my dues. This takes dollars out of the union coffers that would go to political purposes. If more people did this, the unions could find themselves in a real pinch – and be forced to simply stick to union business, and stop telling us who we have to vote for!
