  • What a horribly written story this is. Amateur hour at the Blaze?

In all fairness, many of the commenters here were completely incapable of comprehending the DNA tie-in mentioned at the end of the story – but maybe that‘s because they couldn’t be compelled to read anymore of this garbage.

what i see wrong is.. they could not find a monument in their own country to put on their own money

This memorial was built by the Canadians, in France, as a site for the countless thousands that made a pilgrimage to see where their father, brother, son or husband had perished. The French gave the Canadians this hallowed ground, in perpetuity, to honor the Canadian soldiers that died at Vimy and elsewhere. This is their monument.

  • Having been to the memorial at Vimy Ridge, I can attest to its beauty. Mother Canada looks sorrowfully out across the Douai Plain where many young Canadian soldiers lost their lives. Canadian historians point to Vimy as THE defining moment in Canadian military history, and the memorial recently underwent a huge restoration project. That many Canadians aren’t aware of its significance is tragic. That people would become upset over semi-nude statues is a shame. And finally that some people would see the two columns as being representative of the Twin Towers is pure ignorance. This memorial was designed in the early 20′s and completed in 1936.

If you’re ever in the Arras portion of France – I’d strongly suggest touring the site. The Canadians left much of the Vimy battlefield as it was – with some areas closed to access because of unexploded munitions. I’d highly recommend taking a tour of the vast underground tunnel system hosted by Canadian university students – very worthwhile.

  • Wasn’t it JayZ that tried to co-opt the Occupy movement with his own JayZ brand t-shirts?

So now he’s done it again – create a logo/look for the Brooklyn Nets – and cash in. Of course if people don’t like his ideas, they’re obviously raaaaaaacists!

  • It’s perfectly fine for Megyn to say “How” – she has “high cheekbones” so clearly she’s a Native too.
    Duh!

  • Large groups can be a pain in the @ss – that’s why many restaurants automatically tag on the service fee. Unfortunately, in many instances, this can lead to bad service, since it removes any incentive for good service from the waiter or waitress. While the service fee is clearly printed and displayed on the menu – it shouldn’t absolve the restaurant from providing good service – and if they fail to do so, then the fee should be negotiated.

  • If you visit Michael Yon’s site, you’ll see far better photos. Not all of his work is centered around the soldiers over there – he‘s gone off into some pretty interesting areas in the ’stan.

Speaking of photos – who came up with the captions? The first photo showing a “downed Hind” is actually an abandoned Soviet-era outpost – those are Hind parts laying about in the foreground. The other caption about a soldier sleeping on a nearby roof – with what appears to be an M240. Not even close to an M240. Sloppy work – it’s a Soviet PKM. The Afghan army still uses old communist-bloc weapons.

  • I couldn’t help but think of this Monty Python skit…

  • 57… Duh!

  • The Feds announced this selective enforcement policy quite a while ago. Those of us living in the border states have been pulling our hair out ever since – welcome to our world.

A local radio station had a soundbite from the demonstration – the demonstrators were shouting/chanting “We’re illegal – and we vote!” Which of course only emphasizes the need for Arizona to enforce its voter ID laws.

The local paper (left-leaning) made no mention of the demonstrator’s threat to vote illegally – Shhhhhh! Didn’t happen. Move along now.
