• Rush, you speak with an elegant pen sir and with enough libertarian jargon to cloak a progressive ideology IF you were one. I will not presume either yet. What is clear, you are not a moron. This post of yours above has enough half truths in it to gain my approval… IF I didn’t firmly understand where my principles sprout from.
“EXTERNAL symbols of patriotism become more important than forming OBJECTIVE opinions about YOUR COUNTRY and its POLICIES… That’s the patriotism the founders wanted… based on ‘Enlightenment Principles’.”
There is nothing inherently wrong with patriotic symbols, especially those that remind us of OUR ‘enlightenment principles’ and the grave price paid for those beliefs. But your use of ‘objective’ opinions, while speaking in the context of one’s country and policies, seems to imply only Foreign opinion possesses objective perspective. I would categorically reject such a notion that a Patriot, wrapped provocatively in a plethora of patriotic symbols, could not form ‘objective’ opinions… ESPECIALLY about our country’s policies!
“Patriotism is far dangerous when it becomes nationalism that hides a feeling of supremacy for the people of this country over every other human being for some inane reason. Exactly what I see expressed over and over in these comments.”
It‘s your second paragraph where I get a better feel for what you really mean by ’Enlightenment Principles.’ You assert, when a Patriot rightly recognizes the uniqueness of these United States and the extraordinary righteous accomplishments never before seen in human history, that we Patriots will forget the providence behind those moral ends and assert the credit belongs onto ourselves. That we, not Him, made this nation the miracle that it is. Such recognition does NOT lead to the dreaded Nationalism of which you fear sir, nor to hubris. Such recognition Honors the One that provided it.
History shows it is the various forms of a ‘ruling class’ that twists peoples’ pride, who are not firmly rooted in the Truth of the source of Righteous Providence, into racial supremacy over other groups. Those ‘would be rulers’ that would take credit are the ‘dangerous patriots’ you should be vigilant about. I do not see such assertions being expressed here. So Rush, I am deeply offended that your assertion otherwise implies we’re all racists and demand an apology sir.
