  You are correct. One thing it does show though, I think, is the state of organized religion unfortunately, even the Baptist Church. Look at what many of the major(Methodist, Episcopalian, etc)denominations have condoned in the last decade or two. Some have fractured because of internal disorder, and that’s good, it shows some people have the courage to stand on principle. As for me, I’ll find an independent, evangelical church that will stand on principle and moral rectitude.

  Although the article doesn’t mention it , there were actually a lot of Mexican citizens who wanted the US to annex Mexico because of Mexico’s inherently unstable government, i.e., Mexico was always in a state of internal revolution since its independence from Spain nearly 30 years previously. Might it be different today if US had annexed Mexico in 1848?
