  • This is not a conventional airplane but a ground effect vehicle. It was never designed to fly outside of ground effect. When birds seem to glide effortlessly over the waves, you are watching them use the proximity to the water to reduce drag and make their wings far more efficient via “ground effect”. There is video of the beast actually operating.

  • Hey look! Two products that failed to meet everyone’s expectations!

Actually, both these “products” are performing exactly as I expected them to.

  • Not at all surprised at the college education response. However, having attended college myself and worked with many college graduates, this does not guarantee “intelligence.” I know plenty of grads who could not hit their own butt with a canoe paddle even if provided with the instruction manual for doing so.

  • –Given all of these uncomfortable truths for the administration, some policy analysts are suggesting– more loudly than ever– that the purpose of Operation Fast and Furious was to create a so-called “River of Steel” of American guns into Mexico, then turn around and use it to crack down on guns with the full might of the federal government across the United States.–

This the only reason this program was implemented.

  • So, following the metric of “its all the unions fault’, Southwest airlines should be filing for Cahp 11 any day now. As the the most unionized company in the industry, surely they are doomed to failure. Oh wait…

  • “Our kids don’t even know the [American] national anthem and here we are…teaching them to memorize and perform the national anthem for Mexico,” he said. “I just think it’s so backwards.”

The quote above is the issue. Our children are not being taught about the history of our nation and yet are being evaluated on their knowledge of other countries.

  • Best way to descibe it is hours actually paid for a trip. On the average 4 day trip that I do, I may get paid 21-25 hours for the four day period. I do not get paid for the hours spent not operating the aircraft. So the time commited vs. time rewarded is low. Worse case is a single operating leg day. Last week, I flew a single leg to detroit and got paid 5.5 hours. Total time commited was 14 hours for the day.

  • I flew this airplane for 17 years. My last flight was in Aug of 2007 and I miss flying it tremendously. The best part of the job was working with the troops on the ground. I was always amazed at the calm voices over the radio as I flew overhead in relatively safety as they asked me to “standby” so they could get their heads down for “incoming.” Best compliment my squadron ever received was from some troops we helped in Iraq in 2003. On our operations door was written “Thanks, if not for you guys, we’d be dead.”

  • As a pilot for Delta Airlines, I am happy to report that Delta offers many flights to destinations where Mr. Zakaria will likely find the form of government more agreeable. I will even offer to pay for the ride. One way of course.

  • While Clapper may indeed be unqualified for the job, I must agree that at a minimum, China is a huge threat. Iran is perhaps our closest aligator to the canoe, but China long range represents a serious challenge. Consider that many of the large scale cyber attacks on U.S. tech have come from China. China’s military buildup is based largely on countering U.S. capabilities. When China goes after Taiwan, are we going to be ready? The answer to that is how we view them in the present. The sad part of this is that we are willfully financing their efforts.
