  • America is a secular republic and it is best it stay that way.

Religion had it’s turn and gave us the Middle Ages. No need for a redo because the same result would surely occur.

  • @CatB
“Most athiests I have met are also narcissists. BTW … full lunar eclipse tonight.”

    You are an idiot.

    1. That is a non-sequitur. I have met plenty of Christians that are narcissists. Atheist come in every shape and variety. You cannot stereotype us.

    2. The lunar eclipse is tomorrow night. Nice try.

Please educate yourself before you make anymore inane comments.

    In reply to chazman.

    Chazman,

As a proud godless heathen, I am astounded by your intolerance. I prefer to live in a secular republic like we currently have and would never deny you the right to practice your religion. Why deny me my right to be free from religion? Living in a theocracy is only good when your religion is allowed.

I should not be surprised as religious folks tend to be the most intolerant.

Finally, believing in something because you fear of the consequences of not believing in something is no reason to believe in something!

    Respectfully,

    JClem17

Amen DryDave! I’m an atheist as well and I am tired of the Christians complaining about be persecuted and not being allowed to practice their religion. They are the large majority and no atheist is trying to take away their right to worship.

As to the Tea Party, I completely agree with your sentiment. It seems it is evolving into a fundie movement were folks who do not agree with their religion will be excluded.

  • MBurns,

I clearly said keep your religion to yourself and I’ll keep my non-belief to myself. Looks like you are the one who has the reading comprehension problem not me. You will NOT find atheists walking around and trying to deconvert folks from religion but every day you religious folks are pushing your religion on us. So please stop with the persecution complex and grow up as you are the majority in this country.

I read the bible and was horrified by the malevolent bully that is the god of the old testament. Can you please enlighten me to the moral of the Lot story? Also, why are you not keeping slaves as your bible says? There are so many immoral things in the bible that I could go on forever.

Here’s a quick list of murder in the bible: http://www.evilbible.com/Murder.htm
Because we all know smiting people for being curious or from the wrong tribe is the most moral act.

  • HBear,

I’m a former christian (albeit a weak christian) and you know what convinced me that it is all but myth and legend: reading your good ol’ babble. So please stop being condescending as many atheists are former believers who probably know more about your religion and holy book than most average Christians.

I’m fiscally conservative/socially liberal but you religious folks need to relax because you alienate many folks like myself with all the religion nonsense. In case you forgot, we live in a secular republic with freedom of religion, which also entails freedom from religion. So please keep your jesus to yourself and I’ll keep my godless heathenism to myself.

  • There are no “unspoken rules of atheism”. Atheism posits no dogma or creeds, gods or masters. Atheism is simply a response to the unsubstantiated claims for a god made by theists.

Please get your facts straight and do not quote banana boy (Ray Comfort), the guy is an idiot.

  • Great post Okpulot! I am an atheist but I agree completely with what you are saying. Keep up the good work!

    To quote the christians, Amen!

@ E-Merlin, faith is believing in something without evidence or reason. Please educate yourself.

  • What if you have prayed to and believed in the wrong god? What if the Hindus or the Wiccans are right?

Then you are no better off than Mr. Hawking.

    In reply to VERACIOUS.

Melbee, the burden of proof is on you, as you are making the claim. I am simply asking for physical evidence for your god’s existence. You cannot use the bible to prove god or the bible, that is circular logic, which is fallacious. Sorry…

I’m sure you are atheist with respect to Zeus, Apollo, Thor, Odin, Baal, etc. There is just as much evidence for those gods as your god.

What have I got to lose? The only life I am guaranteed, which is this one, that is what I have to lose.

One last thing, I was brought up in a christian home but never truly believed it because it did not make sense. A couple a years ago, I set down and read the bible and was horrified by the malevolent bully that is the god of the old testament and I realized that I was much more moral than this god.

I am now much happier and enjoy life more and have an even greater purpose now because this is my one chance at life and I want to make the best of it.
