  • Oh yes the difference between sincere faith and organized religion. Faith is just another thing people have screwed up by feeling the need to organize and thus subject to egos, ideology, stupidity, envy, etc. etc. Hey God’s favorite color is green and organized religions can raise a lot more money than bible studies.

  • @donh2 There is no slippery slop here only people who proceed with a desired ideological answer and back into the narrative and facts. S.E. Cupp has placed herself in the public eye and clearly presents a desired image and persona. It is that image and persona that lends itself to the satire. It is not the harm or insult Cupp might feel that drives the legal claim in this instance but Hustler’s intent. If it is to sell magazines through a provocative and perhaps offensive piece than that it is what it is. Not sure S.E. Cupp is that relevant to anyone enough that defaming her would be advantageous to Hustler. The fact that she and other conservative outlets stay with the story is indicative that she is now using it to foster and further her chosen image and persona.

  • @Samps The record indicates he self appointed himself that night as he wasn’t scheduled. And yes you are correct that you can utilize deadly force if the individual goes behind defending themselves. Which of course is at best a judgement call and would require witnesses who can speak about the entire confrontation not just the point at which they heard screams. While some outlets have tried to depict Zimmerman as having serious injuries, I’m not sure a “broken” nose (looked more like a bloody nose) and a few superficial scraps on the head would cross the threshold of excessive response by Martin. The difficulty of course is the only one who knows what transpired between the time Zimmerman left his car and approached Martin and shooting him. I personally think the 2nd. degree murder charge is either a gift in that it can’t be proven and may lead to an acquittal, or an attempt to push for a plea bargain. Zimmerman may be sacrificed to protect a wider review of the SUG law. Hard to tell.

  • So I guess the Madame scandal in Washington which included any number of conservative republican types is indicative that they are walking the straight and narrow in the right directions. Get real.

  • @Therightsofbilly Good point and she couldn’t afford to attend the Gala. Not sure which is sadder. The woman who end up in the porn industry. Or the women who can’t deal with the fact that many of them are more attractive than them and making tons of money. What is so surprising that Politicians, Bankers, Professional Athletes and “The End Justifies the Means” Business types would be joined by Porn Stars. Seems like they all sold the same thing, their soul, at some point. I guess they meet to discuss who got the most for it.

  • Or, depending how long they were loose, in withdrawal having missed there rBGH and antibiotic shots. But of course the FDA says there is no “substantial difference” in products produced by cows pumped full of this crap. Key is “no substantial” which of course clearly indicates there is a difference. So who do you think defined substantial, the FDA researchers or the dairy lobbyists??

  • @Sue Dohnim While you spouting off definitions and correcting others with pseudo legal babble. Keep in mind the key test is not the outcome or harm felt by target of the satire, but the intent. S.E. Cupp will need to present a strong argument that Hustler’s intent was to defame her reputation. Given that there were other and better know figures in the same piece, the bar will be very high indeed.

  • Feds Propose New Rules to Fight Foodstamp Fraud

    In reply to Mgui35.

If they want to truly reduce spending on food stamps they should ban members of congress and their staff from meeting with lobbyists from the food & grocery industry who constantly advocate to expand eligibility and benefit level. I think the money should be funneled to social organizations, even mainstream churches, which could provide meals to the hungry. The recipients would be required to work a certain amount of hours in the programs kitchen cooking or cleaning up. Right now given the structure of the program and possibility that the retail food industry itself and its suppliers can still make the same level of profit from the sales, too much money is not being used to actually feed the hungry.

  • @mtcountrygrl Not to overwhelm you but read something about assault also. Like so many you are starting with the end point, the shooting and not the potential criminal sequence. You are incorrect Zimmerman had no basis or standing to confront Martin in any manner, other than on his own property.

  • @mtcountrygrl Ah yes, everyone who doesn’t view the world through an ideological pathology must be a commie. Save your arguments for your friends who pretend to agree with you. At no point did I say Zimmerman was guilty, but you are completely incorrect that a self appointed neighborhood watch whimp has the authority to follow and confront a private citizen walking down the street. There is no indication that Martin initiated any confrontation, so yes logic would tell you that Zimmerman initiated contact. And the next time you come down from the Mountain, take the time to learn what battery means. Zimmerman is not within his rights to confront, question or undertake threatening action. You also cannot claim stand your ground in a situation you initiated unless your LIFE is truly threatened. All we know to this point is a 28 yr. old adult who outweighed a 17 year old KID by 70 lbs initiated something and when the KID started kicking his ass, he shot him. Yes let’s wait for the verdict. But of course if it doesn’t fit you narrow minded narrative, the jury will of course be commies.
