  • @WINEDUDE – The US was a net exporter of gas, not oil. We need to get that heavy crude from Canada down to Texas where we have refineries capable of handling heavy crude. Once that is accomplished, Venezuela‘s threats will mean nothing since we won’t be buying oil from them anymore.

  • I’m curious if employees who are too tall to fit in a Volt can sue GE using the ADA.

  • It is easy to take over small organizations that have open elections. You quietly get your people to join and then when election night shows up, you take over. Especially easy if nominations are taken from the floor on election night.

  • It can definitely be done. Surprises me that it does not happen more often. On a similar note, one group I’m with had an internal coup. People in charge of certain things decided to split off. One of the things they controlled were the club websites. Was a huge mess that caused bad feelings for years. A common cause has sorta forced us to play nice again with each other.

  • “McCarthy’s response to this was intriguing: Students can vote for any individual they’d like, but the clubs cannot have written rules banning students who don’t hold specific views from running for leadership roles. He essentially told students not to vote for people with whom they disagree.”

The problem with this theory is a group of students with an opposing view can easily take over a club. Say the club has 30 members. Fifty bozos with nothing better to do join. When elections happen, the bozos take over and destroy the club.

  • I’ve been led to believe that the “Square” is safe. Some Boy Scout troops are using it when they are out selling popcorn.

  • Back in the late ’90s, I was doing a Crime Watch run in my neighborhood. It was sometime after midnight. I found some car thieves in progress. They were smashing car windows in an apartment complex and grabbing stuff. I never saw the perps but I parked my car by their 3 bicycles. I called the cops and waited. I was a little nervous since I figured the perps were somewhere watching me. I called some people I knew who came over and identified one of the bikes as one that had been stolen from our neighborhood pool. I stood around for well over an hour before I called the cops back. They said everybody was tied up on a murder at a bowling alley. After 3 hours, I called again. The dispatcher said there was no record of me ever calling before. Swell. I took 2 of the bikes home with me. I hid the third. Got some sleep. Came back for the third bike but it was gone. Talked to the people who had been robbed. Called the cops and they came and got the bikes from me. My point is I don’t blame the guy for calling back multiple times since I know from personal experience that the cops can lose track of previous calls.

  • MONICNE – I’ve been a Boy Scout leader for 5 years now. If there are any leaders still abusing scouts, it is because other leaders are not following BSA rules. The leaders have to go through repeated training on the subject. The scouts and leaders have to watch videos on the subject and have discussions before and after the videos. All of it is very uncomfortable but I guess it is what is necessary to keep boys from being abused. Also, any adult that sleeps in a tent with a scout has to be the scout’s parent or guardian. Uncles or close family friends are not allowed. Two deep leadership is how things are to be run. No leader is supposed to be alone with a scout.
