  • If it is short for Yah, Allah it means “O God.“ As in ”O God hear my prayer“ and not ”oh god I’m going to get yelled at.”

  • There is a good piece on Phelps and his whelps ( my phrase) called Addicted to Hate. http://blank.org/addict/ It;s by a reporter and includes an amicable interview with Phelps. He apparently is a desperately evil man and I say that without reference to anything he and his family picket about. I am not prepared to say he cares about gay folk one way or the other. Otherwise, when a judge was killed at Gabby Gifford’s shooting- and supposedly you believe America will be judged by God, why pass up the judge’s funeral and plan to attend that of the nine year old child. They cancelled that plan after one of his daughters was offered an on air interview. I recommend reading that article and making up your own mind about Mr. Phelps.

  • I had the honor of counterpicketing them years ago. They make a formidable presence. Props to Josef for his courage in doing the right thing. And I really like his sign.

  • Is this cartoon racist, funny, or what?

It may be that the people objecting actually thought you were picking on Obama for eating dog. Or they may be against eating animals and treat jokes about same as you might treat dead baby jokes.
Otherwise, the cartoon says nothing about the President’s race or ethnicity. It doesn’t even condemn him for having eaten dog meat at one time. It’s just funny. Wince funny if you are a Democrat but still funny.
And supposedly Bo will not let Obama bathe him anymore. The last bath was way too hot and the water had veggies floating in it.

  • He sounds like someone I could get along with. And he is correct about the Bible having moral errors. Unless you think that the correct punishment for a rapist is forced marriage to his victim, or think that a woman who is raped in the city and does not scream for help should be executed for fornication. (It’s in there.) On the other hand, because of her Christian faith, my Mom faced terminal cancer without fear and in her memory I will always try to be respectful of faith.

First, she is Jewish. So she is allowed to ethnic slur herself. If I ask someone how many men it takes to open a beer, “None. It should be open when she brings it to you.” that isn’t the same as MAYBE a man asking that. Context is everything.
    Second, she was twenty.
(My husband just came in and saw the LEMONFEMALE SPEAK YOUR MIND and opined “They’ll never get it clean.” True. BLAZE, I recommend a moon suit and a flamethrower.)

  • “Living by Biblical principles”. Since you call some people CINOs, there is a certain set of principles you want your politiciabs to live by, which is fine. I feel the same. Only I don’t just ask if the Bible guides their life and leave it at that. I want to know which morals they feel the Bible calls on them to follow. The Berrigan brothers leap to mind: anti-Vietnam war, draft resisters, devoted enough that they went to jail for this. And, well maybe not Fred Phelps because I don’t know if he just wants publicity, but his kids feel religiously bound to picket funerals of fallen soldiers. On the other hand, if a person believes as I do and will stand up for those beliefs they have my vote.

  • I see no problem with using Facebook per se. I have been shown driver’s license photos as a kind of line-up. What I might question is selecting a person with dark hair and bangs out of a lineup of people who friended the bar on Facebook. And I certainly question the police not immediately dropping this woman as a suspect. At best they had a low level identification. Had the woman been wearing sequinned glasses or been tattooed under the left eye, then you might be more certain you had the right person. The problem is not using Facebook. The problem is how they followed up on a lineup.

  • oops, “Robertson”. I can’t type worth spit.

  • What he does with his sexuality is his own business. Apparently he wishes to be heterosexual and now is. Good for him. I instinctively shy away from references to the demonic because in my mind I reserve that for the worst things. Fred Phelps comes to mind. He wanted to picket the funeral of the NINE YEAR OLD CHILD!!! (sorry, I lost it for a second there) who was killed when Gabby Giffords was shot. If Roberts said the inability to walk away from what you didn’t want to do was “like” demonic possession … maybe. There is a jargon among some Christians that I don’t speak but it would be the compulsion not the homosexuality. I worked with a homosexual long ago who was career Coast Guard, who rappelled out of helicopters into burning water to rescue drowning sailors. Who once tossed $5,000 onto the desk at an animal hospital for the care of a stray cat. How demonic is that?
