  • Unbelievable. This isn‘t the first time I’ve heard a congressman compare the mandate to purchase health insurance to the mandate to purchase car insurance. You are required to purchase car insurance because you have been issued a driver’s license and are a potential threat to other drivers. Freedom is when you are free to do one thing, but don‘t directly affect somebody else’s ability to enjoy that same freedom, or other freedoms. Car insurance doesn’t just protect you (which shouldn‘t be mandated by the gov’t!!), but it protects those you might hurt with the driving privileges that have been granted to you (driving on public roads) with the state’s issuing of your license. You are required to purchase car insurance because you have chosen to drive a car. This health law involves the government mandating that you purchase health insurance merely because you are a citizen. You are mandated, completely against your will, and completely unrelated to any choice you have made about any aspect of your life. This is clearly unconstitutional, and more importantly immoral, but what role does morals play in our politics anyway.

Even though I said this comparison is apples and oranges, we can’t ignore what mandated car insurance results in: cheap, basic car insurance plans that end up not benefiting anyone significantly just so low income people can meet that requirement.

  • This is one despicable man. He has no moral code whatsoever and is an extremely irreverent person. The way he misrepresents Christianity is sick, and I’ve never seen him ridicule another faith/religion. Everything that comes out of his mouth is hate. Every time he opens his mouth comes ridicule and misrepresentation of another human being. Practially all of his humor is offensive. When’s the last time he told a joke everyone can laugh at? When’s the last time he told a family appropriate joke? He tries to elevate himself above those of which he makes fun. He serves no useful purpose when he is on television. God bless his soul.

  • I read a whole page of comments before the video started working, which is probably not a good idea because then I’ll be biased before I even watch the video, but I thought most of it was reasonable, except his Scripture references made me gag. Yea a little more clapping than you would expect, but most of it had to do with celebrating the personalities of lost as well as the recovery of Gabrielle Giffords. Let me tell ya, I have anything but respect for this President. I will criticize this president whenever I can, but even if you don’t think he believed all that he was saying, and to be honest I don’t think a lot of it was too sincere, and there of course was hypocrisy abound, I think we’re all being a little too harsh. I appreciated him saying we can’t use this event to turn on each other, even though all his supporters are doing so vehemently, not that both sides aren’t. That’s the first time I can recall Obama denouncing such debate that his fellow liberals/dems were engaged in to such an extent. I laughed when I saw Dupniak and Clyburne clap to that point, HAHA, yea right! At times however I thought it was getting too political and those points should have probably been reserved for another address later or something. Also I was impressed that he didn’t talk about himself much.

But in the end it was definitely weird to see so much clapping. Not exactly the environment one would expect for a memorial service. Especially starting at 31:00…now THAT is a campaign! No memorial service should end in an uproar of applause, but rather a moment of silence.

  • This is too bad. Firstly it’s just weird that this is available to us. If the nephew was posting things potentially harmful to himself and his family then his uncle’s anger is justified. What’s not justified is his physical abuse of his nephew. I agree that our country has lost/is losing its ability to discipline well…everyone’s gotta have a high self esteem, nobody‘s a loser everybody’s a winner, etc…However, is this really a loving and effective way to discipline? It will wake the kid up and force him to think about what he did, but you have to reason with him. You have to address the root of the problem. You’re not going to be able to reason with him when you develop such a hostile relationship. Nobody wants to open their mind to the point of view of the one that is whipping you with a belt. Nothing like this belt whipping will change his attitude. It will most likely have the exact opposite result intended.

  • That’s an interesting diagnosis. Do you have a medical background? I see no problem with crying for such an event, but you’re probably right about the frequency with which he does cry.

  • Wow, there seems to be a lot of heartless people on here. While it is important for a Congressman, especially a Speaker, to remain strong and resolute at the podium to present a sense of leadership it doesn’t mean they have to hide their emotions that make them human. He delivered a strong, heartfelt, nonpartisan, uplifting message.

American culture is infected with the fallacious idea that a real man has a German appetite for beer, a large beard, lots of chest hair, and is “well endowed”. It is truly sad. I‘ll take Boehner’s sincere crying over the remarkably fake smiles of Nancy Pelosi any day. A real, genuine human being doesn‘t need to hide behind the facade of American culture’s “real man” image.

  • @PATRIOTDAZE

“If truth be told, this is no different than conservatives raising funds off of Obamacare…or repeal of DADT. It is politics as usual, practiced with equal proclivity by members on both sides of the aisle.”

Firstly, I won‘t argue that both sides aren’t equally guilty, but equating fundraising off of Obamacare, etc. with fundraising off of this tragedy is ridiculous. Come on now. Regardless of what the facts are in this case, to say that raising money off of a deadly tragedy which should have no political implications can be equated to fundraising off of repealing Obamacare, which is most likely for promoting a cause, ie. repealing Obamacare because they think it will be harmful to the country’s economy and citizenry health, is ridiculous.

Fundraising off of a deadly tragedy does not equal fundraising off of some legislative push that the candidate is supporting, which is part of his/her job.
