  I’m a public high-school math teacher (non-union) Many have compared our jobs to being glorified babysitters. Let’s assume we teachers are babysitters and do some math. How much does the average babysitter make these days? How about minimum wage? $7.25/hour. I teach 7.5 hours day, minus the 25 minutes I get to eat my lunch. Let’s say…7 hrs/day. But I don’t see every kid for 7 hours, just 1.5 hours each. I “babysit” 63 of your kids a day. 63×1.5x$7.25=$685.13. I work 185 days a year. $685.13×180=$123,323.40 Hmmm…the way I see it, you upset tax payers (of which I am as well) are getting a pretty good deal with my $40,000 salary+benefits. Oh yeah…and your kids are getting an education on top of that. Quit complaining.

  First of all, to all of you who refer to the students as “kids”- these are not “kids”. They are adults and the last I checked it was legal for adults to have sex and, whether you like it or not, observe sex acts. Half of those kids probably witnessed their roommates having sex already. I paid for college myself through work and scholarships and loans and if I wanted to take a class on Sexual Education, I could. If sex were immoral, we’d all go to jail!

  To those who don’t think that Sex Ed is a relevant college course. Sex, gender roles in sexuality, sex and society, etc.- let’s not be naive. Sex/sexuality has its place in psychology, advertising, sociology, biology, chemistry, physiology, medicine, criminal justice, social work, and more. Sex is just a part of every culture as religion, language, and music.

  As far as this being some agenda of liberals or Democrats, you tight-assed Repubs need to get laid!

  The reason that religion has to stay out of schools is the same reason that the State has to stay out of your religion. The Separation of Church and State works both ways. Everyone’s quick to jump on the schools for removing the 10 Commandments, but how would you feel if the “liberal” leaning biology teacher had the right to go into your church and put a disclaimer sticker in your Bible saying, “Creationism is just one Theory as to how life began. Some believe that life evolved from single-cellular organisms.” You can’t have your cake and eat it too.
