Give me your vanilla, your chocolate, your butterbrickle yearning to be free. I lift up my cone beside the unemployment line.

  • The problems here can be summed up simply: hills, wet snow, ice, and too many drivers who have no idea how to drive in snow.
It is a very common refrain here “we rarely get snow and it’s never more than one or two days” so people have pretty much two reactions: a) panic and buy out the grocery store before the snowpocalypse or b) panic, grab skis and head to the mountains.
I’m actually embarrassed to see the news coverage on national stations about this because they make us look like such lemmings, but this snow is harder to drive in safely than the drier snow you get in regions that regularly get snow in winter. And there aren’t many plows in Western Washington. You go to the Eastern half of the state and the snow is drier, plows are available, and people know how to drive in the stuff. Completely different. Of course, that half of the state tends to be conservative, too. I wonder if there is a correlation?

  • This car had solar cells on the top that provided curren to keep the interior cool in hot sunlight. Wouldn‘t be impossible to use them to provide a trickle charge when the car isn’t moving.

  • Oh this hurts. I wanted to buy one of these cars ever since I first saw them on the Internet, but they were only taking orders for California residents. They really seemed to be quite remarkable, the hybrid version was able to get around 300 miles per gallon (1 gallon gas tank, between the battery and the supplemental charging from the tiny gas engine, could go 300 miles before needing a charge). This is far better than the government sponsored hybrids and electric vehicles. The three-wheel design would have gotten me into the commuter lane even when driving alone. There was room for two adults and quite a bit of cargo. What about this car is a bad design?
And if this design is not something the people want, then why were there so many people putting down a deposit for the priviledge of waiting months for one? If they had opened up the sales nationwide they would have had far mor orders, but they were all hand made and they didn’t have the people to make them any faster. This really is a loss for the country, especially for tyhose of us with long commutes that want to save money and lessen fuel and environmental impact. I would love an electric vehicle, but my work commute is 45 miles each way. If I hit traffic, which in the Seattle area is a certainty, then there is no electric vehicle in production that could reliably complete the commute without a recharge during the day. The Aptera could do it, and was selling around $25k. Beat that, GM.

  • I’m saddened that the debate here and everywhere seems to be whether Herman Cain is lying and what he should do about it. Has everyone forgotten that in America we presume everyone to be innocent until PROVEN guilty? Casey Anthony got more respect than Mr. Cain has been getting. The women who brought up the charges against him did not provide any proof that would stand up in court, and yet the whole media rushes to turn their microphones to Mr. Cain’s face for his defense. If you look at the records of the women making the charges you see a long list of things that would imply they are making false charges.
I hope someone would force them provide evidence that proves their claims, and that when they fail to do so, there are some serious appologies to the Cain family. As for Martin Bashir, he needs to be reminded of the penalty for false statements under the guise of news.

  • This story is so much bigger than what gets into the media. The blog that broke the original story when the whistles were blown have also brought out information from ATF agents that say that there are similar operations in Texas, Florida, and even Indiana. It isn’t just sending guns to Mexican drug cartels, its also about sending guns to Honduras terrorists and Chicago gangs. It shows a deliberate policy of making guns available to crminal elements in a way that this is a serious act against sovereign nations.
There has been evidence that high level aides in the Obama Whitehouse were kept informed. There has been evidence (although very little has been released by DOJ) that Eric Holder knew in mid 2010. They are in full coverup mode and are working to silence the media who won’t follow their direction to ignore the story. I believe this should end with prison sentences for the top officials who endorsed this, even for the President and Attorney General if the evidence shows they endorsed the operations. Folks, if this was done to prove that guns shouldn’t be available to citizens, this is treason. I’m sure the other nations involved would think it is an act of war.
Here’s another thing to consider: if Eric Holder is forced to resign, who would Obama replace him with?

  • I don’t think I could live this way under my current socio-economic conditions, but if things were to change… Could be a good idea. Ever since I read the idea in an old science fiction novel, I’ve loved the idea of putting apartments underground and using the surface for parks and farming. Another way to do this would be to plant gardens and groves of trees on all of the roofs in a city. Great way to fight smog and provide clean air. But I think we are a long way from such a dramatic change in lifestyle. Look up arcology sometime for a great idea for urban living that would preserve maximum amounts of open space for farming and nature.
Still, this story (despite it’s need for a serious editing pass – email me if you need another editor) shows an example of self-reliance and American ingenuity. Nice to see someone is still trying to build solutions.

  • Michelle Obama’s dumb luck

    September 30, 2011 at 1:03pm

I’m just so shocked that she would use such hate-filled rhetoric as to shop at TARGET. I remember… hate-filled… things like this from the 1970s… and it just affects me so.

  • What does Rick Perry do in his spare time?

    September 28, 2011 at 7:12pm

I think Mr. Perry needs to come to an Appleseed and learn how to shoot accurately without that bench rest or bipod. And learn more about what started this country in the process.

  • So is this an indication of why NASA is no longer allowed in space? Are these more jobs that are moving to China because we can’t compete? What’s next? A generation of children who once wanted to grow up to be astronauts now will grow up wanting to be Chinese?
