  I’m really enjoying all of the people on here losing it over this ad. I get the impression that if it’s not white or protestant, then it’s not “American” to many of you. America is a pluralistic society, with many colors and creeds and it’s a beautiful thing. I’m sure in rural Kansas, it’s all apple pie and baseball, but that’s hardly the reality on the coasts, where most Americans live.

  Rubbish. Historically, liberals have been on the side of limiting draconian government powers, especially in relation to the police and military. Remember, as recently as the last decade, it was the liberals who were outspoken against the Patriot Act and similar massive pushes for executive powers.

  One thing a lot of you conservatives mix up is the fact that simply because one favors social programs, doesn’t mean they support authoritarian police and military powers. You guys are confusing democratic socialism with dictatorial communism.

  Why wouldn’t there be monkeys? Humans didn’t evolve from monkeys, which are also extant species. We evolved from other, now extinct apes, such as the australopithicines. There are no australopithicines today. Monkeys are a different lineage.

  There’s no such thing as a “missing link,” in the way you are thinking of it. Species evolve gradually over eons, and as such, there is a lineage of fossils reflecting such a progression. Since fossilization is a rare occurence in the world, it’s not unreasonable to have some holes in the progression. It doesn’t; however, negate the progression on either side of the holes.

  It doesn’t refute the current theory, it only removes neanderthals from our direct lineage. They were still a closely related sister species that died out.

  Learning a trade skill is an excellent stategy, but you’re missing the point. The whole idea behind college is to pursue goals beyond that. If you want to lay brick, that’s fine. There’s honor in that. There’s also honor in wanting to be better off and become a scientist.

  Because communism comes up in Physics classes and Biology lectures all the time. I know the “colleges are liberal brainwashing mills” is a favorite line of the anti-intellectual, but unless you’re taking a political philosophy course, or a polisci course, communism doesn’t come up all that much in class.
