  • She’s a tremendous communicator.

  • I guess it would be healthy to know a little more about the subject before we start casting insults at the scientists. The particle for which they‘re hunting is officially called the ’Higgs Boson,’ and folks in the scientific community refer to it as such, or in shorthand, simply the ‘Higgs.‘ The term ’God Particle’ was attached to it originally by scientists who thought it was non-existant. Of course, media ran with that because, well, after all, it will get the kind of reaction you see here.

So what is the Higgs? Well, if it exists at all(and there exists a large and growing number of scientists who believe it doesn’t,) the Higgs Boson would be the elusive particle that actually causes all other particles to have the property of mass.

You see, one of the real problems in physics is that we have a description of how gravity works at the largest scales, thanks to Einstein, but at the smallest scales, we don’t understand how gravity works at all. We don’t understand how any particle has mass. So the Higgs was proposed decades ago by Peter Higgs to describe how mass is obtained. Problem is, we’ve not found it. We’ve built larger and larger colliders in part simply to find this one particle, thus far to no avail. I think it doesn’t exist, at least not as proposed, and that our fundamental understanding is wrong.

  • You people who claim to be pro-life need to stiffen your spines. Sorry, but this is idiotic. The guy has a right to speak his mind. He has a right to speak out against what he considers murder. He has that right.

Somebody mentions that he has no legal right to say anything because he wasn’t married to her. Newsflash: He wouldn’t have had any more legal right had he been married to her.

    None.

Here’s the problem, and it’s one of inconsistent law: If the man can have no say in whether the child may be born, the woman should have no claim to support for the child.

You want to restore the institution of marriage and restore families? Let the scenario have its proper natural consequences.

Marriage is an institution created for one vital purpose: To create legitimacy for children resulting from the union. That’s the only reason government should have any factual, legal interest in marriage.

As for this case, he has every right to make his appeal to the world. She has no claim to privacy. The moment she told him she was pregnant, and that she was going to abort the baby, the notion of ‘privacy’ died. It was no longer private.

  • Weiner should stand up and take his licking like a man.

    Then he should resign.

  • Dad is clearly teaching his son an important lesson, whether the son thinks he needs it or not:

You cannot let the opinions of others be your standard of self-evaluation.

I think he’s a great dad, but of course, I’d like to know a bit more about his motive rather than taking a guess and imputing one that may be wrong. Generally, however, somebody being this consistent is doing it for a reason. I think that’s part of this. I also think he’s saying: “Son, you have to worry less about what others think about you, because that sort of thinking will get you into bad trouble.”

“Your friends think I’m weird and it embarasses you. What do YOU think? Am I weird, or am I making an important point because I love you?”

I could see that being the case. I hope I’m right…because if the blaze knows, they’re not sharing.

As a veteran, I commend this poster. It says a good deal about honor. It says a good deal about the ethic and culture of our military, and it’s in stark contrast to our general populace.

It‘s too bad we’ve fallen so far. Did you see the story about the elder nuclear engineers in Japan, volunteering to go work at Fukashima, so the young wouldn’t have to? Can you imagine? The majority of the elders in this country won’t take a cut to medicare.

    In reply to markamerica.

    @GJG:

Yessir, It’s sad and pathetic. The notion that if we wish to avoid the healthcare mandate, all we need to do is “earn less money” according to his Solicitor General, is all the evidence you need. And yes, it’s time to Go Galt.

You know, this graph looks strangely like the spatial demonstration of the tear in spacetime created by a black hole.

    Almost the same.

  • @Dredge:

This whole thing boils down to a single issue: Sarah Palin is one of us. She’s not one of them. Their hatred of her is their hatred of us. Think of it this way: Sarah is the voodoo doll liberals use for expressing their hatred of conservatism. They stab her, we bleed. There’s a good reason for this, too. In every reasonable sense, their attacks on her personally are attacks on us philosophically.

We need to immunize ourselves against them. We need to grasp and understand what Sarah has said, and why it’s critically important:
    -
“I think to start with, we ignore some of these reporters and their requests for us to comment and be interviewed,” she said. “We know going in what they are going to do to us to as conservatives — so, why participate in their game?” — Sarah Palin

    -
She’s right. We need to stop playing their game. We need to stop playing by the rules they’ve rigged. We need to stop paying attention to the media outlets that bear us no good will.

Most of all, we need to elect a ticket that can restore the country:

    Palin/West 2012
