  • Tony Perkins is an ignorant theocrat. Natural law has nothing to do with whether things are “natural” or “unnatural” in such a perspective. If you look at it that way, all technology is unnatural therefore illegitimate.

Natural law ask the question, what action are acceptable to man in the state of nature? If we add another man into the state of nature with him what interactions are acceptable? Natural law legitimizes all consensual voluntary actions and delegitimizes all violent and coercive actions. Natural law argues completely against Tony Perkins. Government coercion to restrict entry into a voluntary contract is completely illegitimate.

  • Ahmadinedjad has been on his way out for a while. He has butt heads too many times with the Supreme Leader. In the end, he has always been more a figurehead than a leader with any power. Its amusing those who listen to his rhetoric and think he represents the policies of the Ayatollah. The Ayatollah has said many times that nuclear weapons are an offense to God and has issued a fatwa against their production.

While I despise their political system and the oppressive theocracy, if left alone, the people would not allow the government to act aggressively and there would be little incentive for the government to find ways to defend itself against the west. It seems that US policy over Iran will be a self-fulfilling prophecy; US threatens Iran and imposes sanctions against it before any Iranian aggressive actions have been proposed. The Iranian people rally around the government to save them from the poverty that US imposed sanctions causes. Iran makes trade deals with non-western power that the US is threatened by. US intensifies sanctions, military presence, and warmongering rhetoric. In order to have a better bargaining position, Iran does actually switch its nuclear power programs to a weapons program.

If we look at history, the US has never launched an attack against a nuclear power. We have often launched bombings and invasions of non-nuclear powers, but as soon as a country has nukes we seem to leave them alone. Perhaps Iran has learned from this.

I would think that you would be condemned as a Pharisee for trying to use ritual and government instead of love and compassion. It is not proper for Christians to use government to instill morality in people. It is through love and persuasion that we spread the word of Christ. We act as individuals to serve the Lord, not vote on a coercive act of government and call it piety.

  • You may believe whatever you want about marriage, however it is illegitimate for you to use government to force your definition of marriage on everyone else.

  • So then you don’t eat pork, or shellfish, or cheese and beef together, or wear clothes made out of multiple fabrics. I would hate for you to be a hypocrite and throw out some pages of leviticus and not others.

  • I find it appalling when clergy get involved in politics. Christians are not called to use government force to instill morality; they are called to live by example.

  • Good for her. When I have children I am going to teach them the history of the pledge and meaning of the pledge and advise them not to participate. I will not pledge allegiance to a piece of fabric or to a government. I am no sheep. I will ally myself with logic and reason, not emotionalism and nationalism. By the way, the pledge of allegiance was written by a socialist for the purpose of instilling nationalism in an individualist culture. Seems like it worked pretty well.

  • If the man fired onto someone else’s property, then he committed a crime. His rights end at his property line.

  • Wow. Just wow. If they want to claim that right to work laws are a violation of the 13th Amendment, I claim (with a much stronger case) that the 16th Amendment is in conflict with the 13th Amendment because I become a involuntary servant of the government during the time I am working to pay off my tax liability.

  • So if the terrorists hate us for our freedoms… well then we don’t have to worry about that anymore. We are more authoritarian than them.
