Worship Wars: Is the Worst Fight in Your Church Over the Style of Music?
November 28, 2011 at 1:28pm
I’m Presbyterian. Music is a very important part of my worship experience. I like it to be traditional, but uplifting. I am married to a Catholic. The few times I attended mass at his childhood church, all the music sounded like durges. After we moved, we started attending the Catholic chusrch down the road. I didn’t feel comfortable, but for family I did it – the music wasn’t too bad. Then they got a new priest from a neighboring town. He had what we refer to as the “hippy-dippy” music — the synthesizer and more of a rock sound. We thought it may be just for a special occasion, but when we walked in the next week, I immediately walked out. I could not worship with that music. I walked down the street to the Methodist church and they had even more contemporary music. I walked out of there crying. We tryed other chuches in the area and were pleased to find another Catholic parish which is perfect for us. Music is very important in the mass and it is traditional. They also have a healthy focus on children which is important to grow the parish. Best of all, the priest really makes me feel comfortable, being a Protestant.
I believe different styles are appropriate. We are all individuals, so we are not all going to like the same worship style. However, the church should take into account the community in which they serve. Otherwise, it can turn off too many people.
Gov’t Could Adopt New Proposal to Rate Food Using…Stars

I was shopping yesterday and heard a PSA over the loud speaker (don’t remember what for). At the end I heard “This message has been broght to you by the Dept of Health & Human Services” I got goose bumps- it gave me the creeps. Reminded me of 1984.

Did Shariah Law Just Work Its Way Into a Florida Court?
March 21, 2011 at 12:55pm
If the contract was signed using Sharia Law, then I believe under US contractual law it would be correct to have it arbitrated using Sharia Law.

Beck Responds to NY Times Article: ‘Hatchet Job’
January 25, 2011 at 10:04am
Glenn’s right. The NYT has used it’s brand name to suceed thus far, but if you don’t keep the quality behind the brand you will destroy yourself. There are too many brands that were created by good people that the latest generation are now destroying for quick profits or ideology.
