  Our 17 year old daughter was diagnosed with PCOS in October of last year. She is on BC because of another drug she needs to take because if one gets pregnant on that med, there are severe consequences for child and mother and *legally* the endocrinologist cannot prescribe one without the other and “take our word for it” that she will not have sex. The BC does not prevent cysts. Only 5% of the female population has PCOS – how does this woman know so many of them?

  @ Nick84; the syndrome Fluke’s friend had is called polycystic ovarian syndrome. I know because our 17 year old daughter was just diagnosed with it. There is a med that you have to take to ease the symptoms and it is *not* BC. The BC comes in because it would be a health danger to concieve while on this med and my daughter’s pedi endocrinologist “would not take my daughter’s word and mine that she would not have sex, even though she believed her/me. If her insurance did not cover the BC, then *may-be* she should have paid out of pocket for the BC rather than risk losing an ovary. Just saying!

  @ Katy, so sorry about your grandfather. Can you clear something up? I got the impression from your post that he was a customer who was treated rudly, not that he was an employee. Also, my father emmigrated from Italy when he was 16 years old, leagly and with an American Sponsor. We now have a multi-million dollar construction company. He is a success story – but he still has an accent.

  I have 2 girls who were in GS. I was a leader and Service Unit Manager for 3 towns. I saw the organization was going down hill early on. They eliminated Halloween parties because they did not want to “offend the Wiccans” – and I am not joking! One woman in one Troop objected to making shoe boxes for a Christmas Child program and, instead of encouraging her to do something else with her daughter, the Leader was told to stop the donations. The end game for me was when a girl handed in a spreadsheet of “independant” work she did on badges with no proof. I was told by National to accept her at her word (even though she used “making GORP” in 7 different places. My co-leader and I disbanded the Troop rather than allow that kind of cheating.
