  • Hmm . . . maybe if the Magi were holding hands, or the shepherds were posed just so with their sheep, Nativity scenes would not be so offensive to liberals?

(heavy sarcasm–don’t accuse me of blasphemy)

Oh, by the way, just what have you done lately for your fellow man?

What planet are you living on? Christians are the first on the scene with aid whenever disaster strikes around the world. Ever hear of the Red CROSS? Conservatives, many of whom are Christians, give a larger portion of their gross income to charitable causes than do liberals. The charities they support aid the poor, whereas the charities liberals support tend to be the arts and institutions of higher learning. Last weekend, my church supported a free clothing “sale” for the low-income families in our area. We gather and distribute back-to-school supplies, support a year-round food pantry (I wish you could be there the first Sunday of every month when people drop off their bags of food on the way into the sanctuary–literally truckloads of groceries!), built a Habitat for Humanity House, donate two Saturdays a year to help clean up the trailer park community next to the church property, support a “giving tree” at Christmas where church families “adopt” a needy family in the community and provide new clothing and toys for the children, HUNDREDS of pairs of brand-new shoes were collected for back-to-school children in the community — I could go on and on, and that’s just ONE congregation. But if you’ve never darkened the doorstep of a church, you wouldn’t know the lengths to which Spirit-filled Believers go to obey the mandate to “love one another” as Christ first loved us. We are blessed to be a blessing to others.

  • Joe1234, your “provable assertion” that Jesus would prefer that money be spent to help the poor rather than glorify His Father is absolutely, provably false. Read John 12:

1 Six days before the Passover, Jesus came to Bethany, where Lazarus lived, whom Jesus had raised from the dead. 2 Here a dinner was given in Jesus’ honor. Martha served, while Lazarus was among those reclining at the table with him. 3 Then Mary took about a pint of pure nard, an expensive perfume; she poured it on Jesus’ feet and wiped his feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.
4 But one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, who was later to betray him, objected, 5 “Why wasn’t this perfume sold and the money given to the poor? It was worth a year’s wages.” 6 He did not say this because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief; as keeper of the money bag, he used to help himself to what was put into it.

7 “Leave her alone,” Jesus replied. “It was intended that she should save this perfume for the day of my burial. 8 You will always have the poor among you, but you will not always have me.”

Here is what Paul had to say on the matter in his second letter to the Thessalonians (3:10): For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: “The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat.”

In other words, Paul and his companions worked to support themselves as they traveled to spread the gospel. The early Church drew a clear distinction between the truly needy (ie, widows and orphans) and the idle looking for a free ride. Today’s charities do so, as well. The government does not draw that distinction; indeed, the more people “community organizers” get on the dole, the greater their consolidation of power.

The Biblical book of Acts describes a VOLUNTARY system of communal living and sharing, not government-imposed socialism.

  • I can’t imagine marrying someone who only desired me for my beauty or youth or wealth, all which are fleeting. I would be in constant dread that someone younger, richer or more beautiful would come along, or that calamity would rob me of the characteristics that attracted him in the first place. That’s no way to live . . . or love.

  • I am so thankful that progressive socialists are anti-gun.

  • Oh, goody. You mastered “copy” and “paste”. Congratulations! Time to go work up some original content that is apropos to the conversation you are joining.

Not to mention Jack Conway. Fortunately, Grayson and Conway lost BIG, so maybe next time candidates will think twice before running the stupider negative ads.

  • I hope no one takes impeachment off the table until all the crimes (like failing to prosecute voter intimidation) are thoroughly investigated. Only those guilty of MAJOR crimes demand immunity from prosecution BEFORE they give testimony.
