  • When I hear this song-I think of the taxpayers as the boss. And the more I listen, the madder I get. These goons have no respect for their tax paying neighbors and want to take the taxpayers down.

  • Any old Republican? This is the same mentality that got us John McCain last time! If this party wants to win, we need a candidate to vote FOR. Voting against Obama only produces a confused rabble of “vote for me– I’m not Obama” clowns. If the party doesn’t produce a clear, electable candidate, we shall surely lose again.

  • How refreshing! I watch a politician speaking — and I don‘t feel that he’s insulting my intelligence. I hope he runs, even if only to give American voters an example of true leadership qualities.
I fear that most Americans will reject him– no room for sacrifice in our society today.

  • Saying that we’re “a little disappointed” in our president is like saying the great wall of China is a “little landscaping project out back”

    In reply to Chasvs391.

If you would dissolve all unions– does that include the UNITED States of America? You sound like some inbred hillbilly southerner still griping about the Civil War. If it wasn’t so sad, it would be hilarious.

  • GM has paid back the loan– 5 years early. The balance was taken by the government in stock.– So all of you simple minded GM bashers should support the company in which you have an investment. Not doing so will only keep the price of the stock low. It’s a traitorous thing to buy a foreign car when your neighbor builds fine vehicles. Honda IS a foreign car company.

  • Excuse me for pointing out the obvious, but these guys are NOT union members. Why did the subject of unions come up? Seems to be a good deal of paramoia on this site regarding the reasons for, and the actions taken by unions. If a union member violates a work rule or code of conduct, there is almost always a contractual disciplinary system. The union representative is responsible for (and supposed to) act as an advocate for the accused worker– to ensure that the policies and procedures are followed. It’s very similar to a lawyer defending an accused criminal in court. Or would you condemn that as well? It would seem that, in a country which is a UNION of several states who have joined together for the betterment of all– that a worker’s right to collective bargaining would be better understood.

  • If you morons really wanted the money back, you would be buying GM products. Good sales would raise stock values and possibly produce an increase over the money invested in GM stock. But I think that most here are 1) Too simpleminded to comprehend return on investment 2) Too jealous of hardworking Americans who have banded together to secure decent pay and working conditions to overcome your sheep-like bleating of mindless, nonsensical anti-union bumper sticker slogans. and 3) so eager to save a dime that they gladly commit economic suicide by blindly shoveling thousands of dollars (and the jobs they represent) overseas to our economic competition. Honda may build some cars here– But they are NOT an American company. Honda and Mitsubishi built the Japanese war machine that attacked America and cost the lives of far too many brave servicemen to forget.

    You people disgust me.

  • WASHINGTON April 21, 2010 (AP)
Fallen giant General Motors Co. accelerated toward recovery Wednesday, announcing the repayment of $8.1 billion in U.S. and Canadian government loans five years ahead of schedule. The U.S. government still owns 61 percent of GM. The automaker is counting on a public stock offering to allow the U.S. government to begin recouping its remaining $45.3 billion investment. GM received $52 billion from the U.S. government and $9.5 billion from the Canadian and Ontario governments starting in 2008. At first the entire amount of U.S. aid was considered a loan. But during bankruptcy, the U.S. government reduced the loan portion to $6.7 billion and converted the rest to company stock. Canadian governments also converted part of their debt to shares, reducing its loan balance to $1.4 billion. The final installments on those loans were repaid Tuesday, comfortably beating a 2015 deadline.

  • Everything important that working families have won during the last 100 years was won by or with the help of the unions that America’s workers formed through struggle. The list is long but includes: *Overtime pay and protections including the 40-hour workweek and the weekend
    *Medicare and Social Security
    *Workplace safety laws
    *Child labor laws
    *The minimum wage
    *Civil rights
Most importantly, unions are a way that working people win a Voice at Work that brings them better pay and benefits, dignity and respect in the workplace and, put simply, a better work life and more opportunities for their families.
