  TexasCommonSense, I think you misunderstand the reason for the hyphen.
  TheAmericanRifleMan is correct.
  It is a sign of reverence and respect. We do not write or say His name casually.

  I am Jewish – Jews believe that is it forbidden to erase G-d’s name. Therefore it should never be written in a place that can be discarded, defecated, or destroyed. To clarify, Judaism is not against writing His name – only erasing. But most avoid writing His name due to the risk that it can be destroyed.

  This is similar as how the Hebrew name for God, “YHWH” (aka Tetragrammaton – 4 letters: Yud (י), Hay (ה) , Vav (ו), and Hay(ה)) is NEVER pronounced out loud in Judaism. When it appears in Jewish scripture, we substitute the word “Adonai” which means “my lord.” Outside of prayer service “Adonai” is substituted for “Hashem”, meaning “the name”, as “Adonai” is so closely linked to the name of G-d.

  Deuteronomy 12:2-4: You shall utterly destroy from all the places where the nations, that you shall possess, worshipped their gods, upon the lofty mountains and upon the hills, and under every lush tree. And you shall tear down their altars, smash their monuments, burn their asherim with fire, cut down the graven images of their gods, and destroy their name from that place. You shall not do so to the Lord, your G-d.

  Exodus 20:7: You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your G-d, for the Lord will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.

  67 border with agreed land swaps? What? Are you kidding me?
  What land exactly did the Palestinians ever offer the Israeli’s in order to maintain peace?
  Israel has been returning land since 67 and what exactly did they get in return?

  Israel uprooted its own citizens out of the Gaza Strip in 2005 – just to have more rockets fly over into Israel and allow Hamas to gain control

  Israel returned the Sinai Desert in 79 after gaining control in 73 – this resulted in the further spread of radical Islam against Israel and the growth of the Muslim Brotherhood swept through the Sinai and Israel’s loss of control of the Sinai kept the Philadelphi Route open, to be controlled by Egypt – which allowed thousands of weapons and hundreds of terrorists to be smuggled into Gaza

  Israel returned some land in the West Bank forcing its own citizens and families to demolish their homes

  Israel pulled troops out of Lebanon – twice – only to see Hezbollah get stronger

  So what else is left besides the rest of Jerusalem to and the Galilee????
