Gov’t-Subsidized ‘Clean Energy’ Company Awarded Loan Guarantee to Sell Solar Panels…to Itself
March 19, 2012 at 11:20pm
I am uncomfortably placed in the position of defending the White House here. When the Export-Import Bank loans funds to a foreign company (a Canadian one in this instance), it does so, usually, with the stipulation that the money is used to buy American products. This is standard procedure by which the agency “helps” American industry.
Furthermore, Ex-Im’s money is often garnered from private sources and simply pooled by the agency, but I don’t know how much is private money and how much is tax money.
Now I don’t believe government agencies can or should interfere with supply and demand or with competitive advantage. Fiscal “investment” is generally a net negative in my mind.
I just thought it important to point out that the Ex-Im Bank doesn’t seem to be doing anything out of the ordinary here.
Cats, Not Cars, Cause…Climate Change?
July 15, 2011 at 1:53am
Cats, according to Mother Jones, DO NOT cause Climate Change. The quote: “birds are key to protecting ecosystems from the stresses of climate change … they save plants from marauding insects that proliferate as the world warms.”
In other words, as global warming occurs, these insects breed more and fewer plants are found. And birds aren’t there to offset this phenomenon because cats kill them… because of global warming.
Nowhere in this line of logic are cats a cause of climate change. Instead they are an alleged cause of preventing the re-balancing of plant and insect life (the ecosystem).
I hope you guys correct this in the blog or something. (disclaimer: I am the last apologist you will ever find for Mother Jones or LiveScience.)
