When it comes to the LDS faith there is never a specific reason why polygomy was allowed, but there are many theories. One is that it allowed families to be joined together for eternity, many women and children needed a provider to cross the plains. These are just 2 of the theories I have heard. Regardless of the reason, there were strict guidelines that had to be followed. 1. a person had to be called to take more than one wife, they could not just choose to do it. 2. they had to be able to support the wives. 3. they had to have the permission of their current wife (or wives) before they were allowed to. There were more but I cannot remember off the top of my head. The fact is that many of the men did not even sleep with anyone other than their original wife. Yes, many did sleep with them too. But the fact is every time someone thinks of polygamy, the first theing they think of is s ex. That was not the case in many, if not all of the plural marraiges that took place.

Actually, in the old testament when Nathaniel came to David to confront him with the sins that he commited with Bathsheeba (sp?) he stated that the Lord had given David Sauls wives among other things. So if the Lord gave David wives (plural) how is it that He does not condone plural marraige? The truth is, if God authorizes a plural marraige, it is rightous, it is when men take wives unto themselves that it is not. Abraham had 2 wives but he was a friend of God. I think it was Jacob (can’t remember, don’t have a Bible in front of me) who was tricked into marrying Rachels sister then 7 years later he married Rachel too. He was the father of the 12 tribes of Israel. Obviously he was in pretty good standing with God.

  • So I suppose if the economy does fail and people remain unemployed then as long as they can smoke pot and gays can get married then it will all be ok. Please tell me whn was the last time Obama sat down and actually talked about the economy (the #1 issue for Americans) and how he plans to help it? All he is doing now in shifting the focus from one meaningless point to another.

  • Methinks that your post is to well typed and spelled for a 6ht grader. Plus, there is a very slim possibility that the one person this kid supposidly bullied happens to read the blaze and happened to come upon this story. I don’t know of any 6th greader that reads news websites. But if by some random chance you are truthful, you do know that when a boy picks on you at that age, he really just likes you. Congradulations!!!!

  • I do have to say that while there were many things that bush did in his presidency that I strongly disagree with I am proud of all the things that he is doing for our vet since he left office. To me it seems like he really cares about out troops. I hope that Obama will do the same thing when he is out of office as well.

  • While your is factually correct, I do have to point out that we do not technically have claim to America either. Don’t get me wrong, I support Isreal fully, but your argument can be used for almost any group of people. My thoughts are, if those in Palestine stop attacking and calling for the destruction of Isreal, then there would be peace there.

  • Ah, humanity. The only species trying to make itself obsolete.

  • What reproductive issues are needed to fight over?

Honestly I could barly make sense of the post you addressed to me. But with “Mormon Doctrine” the book, it was written by a man who tried to give an explanation of what the LDS faith believes on various topics but he was not correct on many things so it is not official doctrine of the church. You are correct that there is only the doctrine of God but let me ask you, what is it? There are over 20000 Christian denominations, each having different and contradicting beliefs. The scriptures say that there is one Lord, one faith, one baptism, so how is there so many denominations? Is this what Christ had in mind when He organized His church? How can contradicting beliefs all be right? Some believe baptism is necessary by immersion, some by sprinkling, some by dry baptism, some when their infants, some when they are children, some when they are adults. Some do not believe baptism is necessary. Which is correct? This is just one example. Also, do you think that all God wants us to know about him and his dealings with man throughout history is ontained on only 1590 pages? It is life eternal to know Him yet He gives us so little for that? You do have to admit that Christianity in general is confused. Why would God not give us a way to clear up that confusion? And please stop lying about worshiping Joseph. The devil works through lies. I have never nor will I ever worship Joseph, nor will any true LDS member.

So what you are saying is that if something is related to slavery then you should not wear it. So wearing African dress or Muslim dress should offend you as well. It was the Africans who sold their own people into slavery. It was because of their fellow people that the Americas had the abundance of slaves we did. I am not justifying America for what they did but you can not discount Africas role in all of it. Africa and the Middle East are the only places in the world where slavery still exists. So by your logic no African or Muslim dress should be allowed because you are human! That is why people being hurt and treated unfairly hurts you instinctively.
