  • Our son has been in the Marines since 1997, and I finally made him answer these questions.
WOULD MILITARY TAKE ACTION AGAINST PRIVATE CITIZENS?

“Mom, yes we take an oath to defend and protect the Constitution. BUT, as laid out in
the Constitution, the President is commander in chief of the military. So we are
obligated to carry out his orders.

“However . . . if said orders are in violation of the Constitution, no, we are NOT
    duty-bound to carry them out.”

Asked who makes the decisions as to the Constitutionality of these orders.
He replied that within each branch of the military are high-ranking officers whose
only job is to interpret the Constitution. And it would be this “round table” of men
    who would make the call.

He also commented that when he first went in the Marines, political ideology
in the ranks was almost 100% conservative.
Now? About 75% conservative, 25% liberal.
Cripes, how can you be a liberal and be in the military?? Sons says it has to do with
guaranteed lifestyle & benefits, not with they themselves sacrificing for the
    country itself or protecting citizens.

  • Why Dollar Devaluation Has Beck Playing With Puppets

    In reply to Ruler4You.

    Exactly, Ruler4You!

My mother, who would be 100 years old if she were alive, always voted for
the candidate who promised an increase in her Social Security check.

My father, however, studied history and in retrospect was correct about what
has come down the pike the past 40 years. In 1965, when I was 17, LBJ
inaugurated the Great Society—complete with welfare, Medicare, Medicaid,
ADC, etc. My dad’s response? “Well, isn’t that nice. Quite a humanitarian
outlook. But I’m here to tell you that longterm it will NOT work. It’s the old
Amway Pyramid principle: you need a constant influx of people at the bottom to
continue propping up those at the top. I was one of 8 children, but I only had
two. How many you gonna have??” (this was right around the time The Pill
came into widespread use, but before abortion).
Another analogy he used for welfare was
his farming experience. “Now, when I have a sick pig, yeah it needs more rations
and attention. But I had better be hand-feeding that little runt, because if I simply
put out extra feed, the healthy ones will shove him out of the way and have it.
You are going to see fraud on a scale that will be breathtaking.
This idea will run its course within 40 years, possibly sooner.”

My dad was born in 1904 and lived the Great Depression as an adult.
Even though I wasn’t around then, I felt like I was because I heard so much
about it! Most of today’s retirees, however, were children then and
although they may recall not having much of a wardrobe, they don’t know
how their parents just struggled to survive. As these people leave this earth,
those left behind were educated in the 1960s and probably were taught
revisionist history. This only encourages an entitlement mentality.

  • Another sly “under-the-radar” move by companies has been
going on for a long time now.

    DOWNSIZING. With price.increases.

Nightline actually had a segment on this last year. Several companies, including Kimberly-Clark, I believe, were featured. Interviewer said, “So in other words, there are less tissues in this box of Kleenex, but the price is still the same as when there were more.” Company spokesman said, “You bet. We’ve done surveys and consumers will accept less product as long as the price stays the same.” ?????

Ten years ago, a box of Kleenex that fits in my kitchen dispenser had 175 tissues and cost about 79 cents. Best deal today is 99 cents, BUT there are now just 110 tissues in said box! Same with sugar. Almost every brand that used to sell a 5-pound bag of sugar has downsized to 4 pounds. Again, the price has gone way up. Shelf price of this 4-pound bag was about $1.79 (not on sale) last year; this year it’s now $2.59 in my area. Christmas baking may have to be downsized.

Glenn has been advocating stockpiling food for some time now. Last year we built additional shelving in our basement and have quietly been accumulating basic canned goods like soup, beans, fruit, evaporated milk, vegetables, etc. What’s the statistic Glenn quotes . . . “majority of Americans are just 9 meals away from starvation.” In other words, they are unprepared. In the event of a societal/economic meltdown, I’m sure my illegal immigrant drug-dealing neighbors who currently eat Pizza Hut/Burger King & massive amounts of soda several times a week will be mighty curious about what lies beyond my back door.

Yes, I’m a housewife who is tuned in to this because I do our shopping and cook from scratch. But I also own my own antique shop that under Obama has lost money for the first time in 2009.

  • Leave it to the progressives to sneak in a reply
that has nothing to do with the topic at hand.
How long did it take you to formulate this
response? I guess the lib-trolls have their
marching orders to insinuate their talking points
    into absolutely every post.

I don’t know how old you are, RR1980, but take
it from one who lived it—a mom with three children
who lived through the Jimmy Carter years.
Surely you remember 20% interest to
borrow money, wild inflation and gas lines that
    stretched around the block?
In Obammy’s words, Reagan had to
    “clean up Carter’s mess.” But I digress . . .

We are discussing the loss of a TV icon and
great lady.Taquoshi said it best: put a sock in
    it, RonaldReagan1980.

    In reply to mtnclimberjim.

One of the things I like about being 62 is reserving the right
to say exactly what’s on my mind. Preface it with “I’ve lived
30 years longer than some of you pups”, then throw in that hubby
and I lived through the Carter years. Which will be a walk in the
park compared to what potentially lies ahead under Obama.

I have a small antique shop and believe me, the only ones buying fall
into one of two categories: a) they naturally have tons of money or
    b) they voted for Obama and think things are turning around. The shop
is a real barometer for what’s actually going on in the country. When
times are really good, I do well. When money is tight, I starve. To get
a cash flow, I offer (in the antique world)a discount of 25% off anything.
Which does work—not to the extent it would have 5 years ago, but some
people are opening their wallets for that discount. Tax cuts work the same
    way.

Most folks do talk about the economy and most are firmly in the conservative
camp. The ones who aren‘t are starting to admit that maybe BO’s policies
aren‘t working and aren’t going to. We’ve actually converted three die-hard,
    county party Democrats!

“You really got to reschedule these debts so that they are not a huge burden on the next few years and cause Europe to plunge down into recession.”

So . . . I wanna know. Is every country in the world borrowing money from China??

Don’t countries network together or at least find out who the backer of all these loans is??

Borrowing from your enemies just doesn’t make sense. And yet, why don’t citizens
question their reps & senators to delve into this?

Cutting spending, coupled with tax cuts, is the way to get ourselves back to fiscal
stability. And yes, perceived “cruel” cuts in the budget will simply have to happen.

    In reply to wingedwolf.

So right, Wingedwolf. Back in the early ’70s, my cousin lost her husband in
a terrible car accident. They had three children under age 10, so she got a
very healthy Social Security check. At the time, she was making substantially
more than my husband who then worked 50 hours a week at the local packing
plant. Under the SS structure, kids of a widowed parent were also given free
college. So her first child went to a business school on the taxpayers. However,
further into the Reagan administration, that program was one which was cut.
That meant the second child just didn’t go to college. After her last child turned
18, my cousin was forced to get a job and drastically alter her lifestyle.

Social Security in its purest form was only intended as a SUPPLEMENT to
old age income, not the whole enchilada! And originally I believe whatever
you had actually paid in was to be what you took out—nothing more. Over the years,
unlimited benefits, free higher education, etc. were added as the result of
    election promises.

  • Exactly, Eagle.

I’ve made that comparison so many times.

Back in the mid 1960′s, our generation actually got a non-politically correct account of history in our high school. I dare say that today’s kids have not a clue about ancient Greek/Roman history. In their minds, “the Trojan Horse” is probably a heavy-duty condom!

  • Well, teaparty, look at the Ft. Hood shooter.

Political correctness seems to have trumped military law,
as well as civil court prosecution.

So I do believe the end result of THAT was Muslims
got a free skate. This bending over backwards to be fair
only enables Islam to gloat, and emboldens future attacks.

In theory, yes . . .”muslims can‘t run our country as long as we don’t allow the to live by their own law (Sharia law).” But I see it as being very similar to the multi-cultural, political correctness in my small Iowa town. We can pass all the ordinances & laws we like to control the behavior of illegals. But what ends up happening is that said illegals & their white liberal lawyers scream RACIST and everybody backs down. Ultimately that’s what will tie our hands in dealing with future enforcement of our laws against muslims. And teaparty, they.know.it.

  • “The increase in bed bugs has nothing to do with the removal of DDT, rather it is due to the increases in international travel and what we call bunk houses of illegal immigrants where 8-10 people are living in a single family home.” – SARGENJD01

So true! Our small midwestern Iowa town has been co-opted by the illegals, to the point where 70% of the population is Hispanic (two major packing plants). I have friends who work at the local schools who tell me that bedbug bites are quite ho-hum these days. However, one of the most pathetic examples was related by a school nurse. An 8-year-old girl had what appeared to be large tooth-impression bites on her back & shoulders. “Do you have a dog that’s biting you?”she asked the child. Girl replied no, their apartment had RATS!!

My state also saw a big uptick in mumps a couple years ago. This childhood disease, too, had been eradicated—or so we thought—for decades. Some legal Hispanics have told us that our town is attracting folks from a very poor, mountainous region of Mexico. No skills, no education beyond 4th grade. And obviously no vaccinations.

Two houses in my neighborhood have at least 25 people in them. We passed a law saying that families can no longer go together to buy homes and/or pack them with people. After two years, I can say it has had little success. Reason? All they have to do is say two words: extended.family. And officials must back off.
