  • Until the 1940s police, fire, teachers and other public services like air traffic controllers were not allowed to strike. FDR changed that, as a sop to unions (nothing changes, does it, 70 years later?).

Where’s Ronald Reagan when you need him?

  • VRW Conspiritor, you know nothing about Thomas Paine. He wasn’t “a self-described agnostic.” Like many of the Founding Fathers he believed in god, but denounced organized religion. He didn’t advocate the bible should be used in school, he called it “THESE WRETCHED TALES,” and his book (The Age of Reason) denounced it and pointed out its absurdities, contradictions and horrific accounts of god-inspired slaughter, saying it was written by woman-hating, ignorant old men. He said the gospel of John, especially, revealed the workings of a sick mind. John Adams wrote that he had often thought “This would be the best of all possible worlds if there were no religion in it.” Jefferson (who said the idea of a savior born to a virgin a myth) said: “I do not find in Chritianity one redeeming feature,“ and ”The purpose for the separation of church and state is to keep forever from these shores the religious strife that has soaked the soil of Europe in blood for centuries.”

Proselytizing a religious faith or church, and its dogma, has no place in any state building, including public schools. However, religion has to get children as early as possible and inculcate (brainwash) this rubbish into them literally from birth. Imagine what would happen if the law said you can’t do this until children reached the age of 18, when they could reason for themselves? They would reject the whole idea of gods, angels, devils and the rest of this superstitious nonsense, and the churches wou

  • How many times does this have to be drummed in? State lands, buildings etc. are NOT the place to display religious symbols, as it makes the state (federal, state, local, etc.) in effect an advocate of that religion. I will always support your right to put your dumb statue up on private land.

  • Pledges are silly and meaningless. Reciting a pledge does not make someone good, nor does it guarantee that they will respect the country and bear real allegiance to it. Thousands of people have religiously recited the Pledge, and then gone off and done evil things to the country, like selling nuclear secrets and joining the Taliban.

Britain has never had a pledge, not even a written constitution, but that hasn’t stopped it from originating the idea of human rights (Magna Carta, 1215 AD), representation of the people by parliamentary democracy (1500s) and the absolute precedence of the people over the head of state (1640) and spreading these concepts around the world, including to the United States.

  • GOOD! Let the priests, ministers, rabbis etc. go and get real jobs.

  • Are the kids going to be taught to sing the anthems and recite the pledges of Peru, also? Chile? Argentina (”I pledge allegiance to the Nazis who escaped in 1945 and were welcomed here.” Anthem: “Bring back Evita!”)? Uruguay? Bolivia? Equador? Paraguay? Colombia (”Coke, it’s the Real Thing”)? Venezuala (”I pledge alliegance to Hugo Chavez, and to the murderous regime for which he stands”)? Spain (Pledge: “Kill more bulls!”)? Are American kids going to have to repeat: “North America belongs to Mexico. We will get back the stolen part calling itself the US, piece by piece”?

My neighbor’s name is Lopez. They and their son come from Brazil. They just found that their kid has been put in a bilingual class; the subjects are taught in Spanish, with English limited to an hour a day. On going to meet the Vice Principal to complain, their first hint that all would not go well was when they were greeted as “Mr. and Mrs. Gomez” (Not Lopez.) The VP and class teacher were puzzled. Didn’t they want their son to acknowledge his heritage and history, and to be able to follow instruction in, say, math in his predominant language? When asked a) what do you think our son spoke before we immigrated, the answer was “Spanish, of course.” No, they said (to puzzled expressions); in Brazil they speak Portugese (blank looks), and b) we speak English all the time at home. Didn’t do any good. The District officials said as there were no Portugese classes he had to stay in the Sp

  • Good. Perhaps people will take their noses out of their bible, Koran, etc. learn about the real origin of the world and how it works, and accept there are no gods, heaven, hell, devil, angels and all that rubbish they should have turned their backs on along with Santa Claus and the Tooth Fairy. When you die, that’s IT. You don’t go to some mythical place where you meet god, live in happiness for ever and meet your departed loved ones. Joe, the Crusades killed hundreds of thousands in the name of god (oh boy, how many times has that name been used to justify slaughter?) As they raped, slaughtered and pillaged through the Holy Land, they joyfully reported back to the pope that the blood of the infidels had reached their horses’ flanks. And it wasn’t just genocide; they also laid waste priceless buildings, works of art, poetry and science, including the Great Library at Alexandria.

The great slaughters committed by atheists like Stalin and Mao, were incidental to their lack of belief. When did you see an army marching and killing in the name of “NO KNOWN GOD”? Hitler declared himself Catholic, chaplains traveled with the murdering SS and Gestapo, concentration camps had Lutheran & Catholic chapels so the guards and gas chamber operators could get spiritual solace after a hard day killing Jews, and as Germany launched two World Wars their motto was Gott Mit Uns (God is with us)

When was the last time you had a couple of atheists knock on your door in an effort to “co

  • That is NOT funny. Ears back, large pupils, crying; the animal is deathly scared about something.

  • Shoot every tenth person.

  • Islam treats women as farm animals, just useful for the physical pleasure of the men and for producing sons. You may not get a divorce, even if your husband sleeps around and beats you. Hmm. Reminds me of the Catholic church.
