  • It’s one of those ugly truths – sometimes you need a bad guy in order to get the job done. Someone who is HIRED (not voted in and subject to recall or political pressure) can get away with the tough calls and can make broad sweeping cuts and decisions that a politician won‘t or can’t make. It’s a sad statement on the nature of our current affairs. It‘s not the first time I’ve heard of this being done. It’s surely not the last. Let’s be honest, I wouldn’t mind if Herman Cain was given this power for a few days. But I’d HATE if BarryO was given this power. I guess it’s all perspective. A necessary, hideous perspective.

  • Point taken. But THIS PhD probably spent more time analyzing the data than the enviro-wacko PhDs did. I’m just saying.

  • Rich white men didn’t get us into this problem. The politicians that WE elected and then re-elected got us into this problem. So if we want someone to start contribuing, how about we seize the net worth of all of our policitians and make a nice dent in the deficit for the year. Sure, they’ll complain about it but when my little boy does something stupid, I swat him across the bottom. This is the equivalent. And if they don’t get their act straighjt for next year, we’ll do it again. I bet THEN we’d see some serious spending cuts.

  • My best friend is a cop and, in this situation, he’d tell me that the best thing to do after getting caught is to stop the car, toss out the keys (remove the threat of using the vehicle as a weapon), put your hands on the steering wheel, and hope that your arresting officer appreciates your effort to comply. He would tell me NEVER to get out of the car like that because you instantly appear to be combative and they will assume that you not only have a weapon but that you intend to flee/use the weapon against them. When he stepped out of the car quickly, he didn’t raise his arms until the forst cop got there. The cop in the rear couldn‘t see the perp’s face to get any feedback so he pushed/tackled the guy to the ground. If the perp’s hands are visible on the ground, the effort has to move to cuffing the guy and not trying for compliance (by striking). But that being said, the time from the 1st strike to the 4th or 5th is about 2 seconds. The body can continue to reflexively strike while the mind is deciding that the guy is harmless. Its instinct with these guys – survival trumps all. At first blush the video looks damagaing but in real life its hard to criticize too much. After all, I’m not the one fearing that he might be killed as I ran up on the scene. No, I;m sitting here second guessing while eating Cheetos and drinking coffee.

  • 99.999% of the time, articles such as this get a sound bite and pass it off as representative of the group without any kind of disclaimer. I applaud the writer for putting that in. I watched as coverage of the tea party rallies did this exact thing. They’d find the one stupid agitator (or planted agitator) giving an off the wall comment and loop it with a tag line of “tea partiers are stupid racists”.

  • Obama Calls on Nation to ‘Invent Stuff’

    January 21, 2011 at 2:07pm

I’ve been here twiddling my thumbs and thinking to myself “Man, if only someone would give me the green light to invent something . . .”.

What a waste of air. I can’t believe that the president just to me to “invent stuff.” Can you imagine if George W. had said those same words? They’d be the lead, snarky story on NBC, CBS and ABC.

  • FOX Anchor Confronts GOP Sen. on His $16 Million in Earmarks

    In reply to cubber.

You know, Cubber, I’ve tried really hard to not come to that same conclusion. I mean I really, really tried. But I finally agree with you. I was watching Morning Joe this morning (no comments please – its better than Fox and Friends – F&F makes me want to vomit)and I’m watching Joe and the liberals just despondent with EVERYBODY in Congress when it comes to spending, debts and deficits. It seemed, for a moment, that there was common ground. Granted, as soon as you start talking about details, it all falls apart, but there’s just no reason to keep these people around anymore. There just isn’t. It seems like public service really brings out the worst in people.

  • That‘s what they’ve been telling the country all along – “we‘re smarter than you and we’re doing this for your own good and you’re too dumb to understand it.” Welcome to our world, Keefy. I wonder how he feels getting bent over and screwed like we did on Obamacare?

  • Islam is a religion of peace just like Christianity is a religion of peace. It‘s not the religion that’s at fault. It’s the fault of those that pervert the religion to their own destructive means. There are bad actors in every religion. Don’t take the easy way out and blame the tenets of the religion. There will always be things that you disagree with in a religion (including other Christian sects) but its always those that kill, maim, torture, etc in the name of their religion and God that are to solely blame. At least that’s how I feel. For what its worth, I have quite a few Muslim friends that live here and abroad, including Muslim countries, and they react the same way that we do to these stories – they hang their heads in shame and wonder what can be done to punish and stop these people. They’re as pissed as you are because they know that no God would support disfiguring a woman for leaving her abusive husband. Only a psychopath does something like that.
