Army: Missing VX Nerve Gas Blamed for Base Lockdown
January 27, 2011 at 3:11pm
The “missing” VX was never really missing. More than likely you have someone conducting a “routine inventory” that just didn’t know where to find it. When any sensitive item (weapons, ordinance, night vision device, communications equipment, etc..) comes up missing it will result in a post closure. If you‘ve spent any time in the military you’ve likely been through one or more. 99 times out of 100 (as in this case) the item is not really missing at all, you just don’t have the right person looking for it. You don‘t have the right person looking for it because the person who is responsible for the item can’t be the one to inventory it (checks and balances).
Just to clarify a couple of things that have been posted: Nerve agents have not been around since WWI, they were first developed in the ’30s in Germany
The United States no longer produces weaponizable amounts of chemical warfare agents, but we still have to prepare to defend against them and that requires that amounts be kept on hand for research purposes. (check out the 1996 Chemical Weapons Convention)
By the way, the BOTOX that someone mentioned in reference to Nancy Pelosi. That is Botulinum Toxin, a biological agent (a symptom of which is: Facial Paralysis).
