  • “True American Liberalism utterly denies the whole creed of Socialism. The disguised or open objective of Socialism is equality in income, wages or economic rewards. The tenet of equality in true Liberalism is a tenet of equality in birth, equality before the law, and equality of opportunity as distinguished from equality of reward for services. True Liberalism insists that to equalize rewards and possession of material things robs the individual of free imagination, inventiveness, risk, adventure, and individual attainment, development of personality, and independence from a monotony that would sentence the sole to imprisonment. It denies the Socialist contention that men will be more free when compelled to work under, and to work for, only one employer-the government.
It is important here to repeat the Liberty denies that the materials of liffe adequate to meet the needs of society can be obtained without reward proportionate to ability and service. it rejects the theory that men will strive to the utmost and will deny themselves from enjoying immediately the whole of the daily income unless the have confidence in the protection of their honestly acquired savings, and thus may protect themselves and their children by their own means and possessions against a rainy day. It holds that ample leadership and improvement cannot be found except by competition, that it cannot be found under the bushel of governmental bureaucracy. It denies that politicians can manage the economic system as well as the people who have risen in it and whose hopes and security of living rest in advancing it.

So Liberals, where did this viewpoint go?

I find it troubling that Obama‘s economic plan is resembling FDR’s. The idea of Roosevelt‘s plan on National Regimentation was described in Herbert Hoover’s book The Challenge To Liberty. Many of these strategies were also Wilson’s. The idea was to achieve National Regimentation through expanding the powers of the Executive Branch. “without tedious recitation of the acts of the Congress delegating powers over the people to the Executive or his assistants, and omitting relief and regulatory acts”…

Through this the “powers which have been assumed include, directly or indirectly, the following:”

“To debase the coin and it’s set value; to inflate the currency; to buy and sell gold and silver; to buy Government bonds; other securities; and foreign exchange; to seize private stocks of gold at a price fixed by the Government; in effect giving to the Executive the power to “manage” the currency”

“To expend enormous sums from the appropriations for public works, relief, and agriculture upon projects no announced to the Congress at the time appropriations were made”

“To organize administrative agencies outside the Civil Service requirements”

    Only to name a few!

I agree fully that views taught in school of any type whether it be political or scientific can be and should be a supplement to whats learned at home. The argument is creationism is religious and therefore cannot be taught in public schools. My thought has always been how can you properly teach anything without religion being involved. History, anthropology, geography, etc all cannot be properly presented in a classroom without an understanding of all religions. So the anti-creationists are simply modifying there arguments against church and state seperation based on the topic.

If the Big Bang is a “theory” and creationism is a “theory” and evolution is a “theory” why is that only the first and the latter are taught in our schools? Should all theories be presented?

    In reply to Belle Hyde.

The people that are anti-creationism will also never mention the fact that even Darwin himself viewed evolution as only a theory. So, it would make sense that the unwise that do not believe that God created all and dismiss it is a theory also make the case the evolution should be taught as fact in schools.
