  • Boy, what venom!! What lack of respect!! I’m surprised our godlike President managed to restrain himself from kicking her in the groin! / sarc off

Seriously, I love this gutsy lady, who has more brains and gumption in her little finger than Obama and his whole Cabinet will have in their miserable lives.

  • Ya know, I’ve heard Newt called a lot of things…but “boring” was never one of them. Oh, well, Anne, you’ve always been a camera-hog diva, guess you can’t stand the idea of a conservative wittier and more eloquent than you actually being in power. “Boring”–good grief.

BTW, Glenn may be interested to see his ooooollll pal Alan Grayson has weighed in on Newt–says he’s running “the most RAAAAACIST” campaign ever…“Racist”–now THAT’S more like it, they’ve said it about Newt about a million times. But NEVER “boring.”

    Here’s Grayson: http://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2012/01/25/alan_grayson_newt_running_most_racist_campaign_since_george_wallace.html

  • During the Cold War days, to say you were a “Wilsonian” simply meant you were (a) NOT an isolationist, and (b) you believed in promoting democracy, rather than just trying to cultivate good relations with any old regime,no matter how despotic. However, a lot of liberals believed in promoting “democracy” to the extent that they didn’t care if rather mild despots were destabilized and then replaced by far WORSE despots–this is where Newt referred to a “realpolitik” Wilsonian, in other words someone who wd be cautious not to throw out the baby with the bathwater.

Glenn has done a great job in recent years in exposing a lot of krapp Wilson brought down on us, but there is no question that he is grossly and unfairly misrepresenting what Newt said here (and what year was it from. BTW? Doesn’t that make a difference, in context?)

Look at Newt’s entire comment–how much do you really disagree with it? Glenn just uses the single word “Wilsonian” as a bogeyman to stampede his younger audience. It is very unfortunate, because he is looking more and more like a dishonest propagandist. Which I do NOT believe he is, but he is just having a kind of ideological tantrum provoked by a few code words. He needs to calm down, and do a reality check on himself.

  • I’ve loved Glenn the past ~12 years, but he has a big handicap analyzing Gingrich: Glenn just WASN’T PAYING ATTENTION when Newt was whipping the Repubs into shape and leading assault after assault on those miserable Dhims for **16 FREAKING YEARS** before he TOOK THE HILL AND WON THE HOUSE FOR THE GOP. Glenn doesn’t recall the incredible slanders, smears, vituperation and mocking that Newt endured all those years, yet he never gave up, even as many in his own party (like Bush 1) also demeaned him.

Why did Newt say those nice things about FDR, in those conveniently unidentified clips? Because Newt was, and is, constantly trying to win over his enemies to his side, or at least pressure them. If you look at HOW he praises FDR, or Wilson, it’s always in terms of CONSERVATIVE VALUES. He cherry-picks a few facts from the leftist icon’s bio, then argues that non-Repubs shd therefore support the current conservative agenda, since “it’s basically just continuing on the FDR tradition.” This used to be a staple of ALL strong Repub candidates, esp. Ronald Reagan. But Glenn wasn’t cognizant of in those years, so he JUST DOESN’T GET IT.

Glenn has done a fantastic service to our country the past few years, esp. w/his expose’ of progressive history, but he is just barking up the wrong tree on this one. If Newt was really a progressive, then why do all the REAL progressives hate him with the white hot heat of a thousand suns?

    “Wake up, people!”
