  Police State initiatives in this country are out of control.

  30 plus years of over-investment in the police state through a phony “War-On-Drugs“ and unthinking campaigns of ”getting tough on crime” have led to this. Unfortunately, there’s no end in sight because of how much money there is to be made in arresting & incarcerating people in the long-term.

  The vast scale of the expanding “crime control industry” has attracted the attention of finance and industry, who welcome it as another form of state intervention in the economy, a Keynesian stimulus that may soon approach the Pentagon system in scale, some estimate. “Businesses Cash In,” the Wall Street Journal reports, including the construction industry, law firms, the booming private prison complex, and “the loftiest names in finance” such as Goldman Sachs, Prudential, and others, “competing to underwrite prison construction with private, tax-exempt bonds.“ Also standing in line is the ”defense establishment,… scenting a new line of business” in high-tech surveillance and control systems of a sort that Big Brother would have admired. The industry also offers new opportunities for corporate use of prison labor.

  Not that I necessarily agree with violence, but why is it that conservatives can have militia groups, Boy Scouts (a bigoted paramilitary group that indoctrinates children), a “Reagan Revolution,” and Tea Parties, but people like Piven get denounced by the Right-Wing media??? Besides, she wasn’t even speaking out against personal responsibility. Protesting en masse is a form of taking responsibility for your own well-being. There comes a time when people should STOP being so complacent & take to the streets for protest & that time is now. People need to get off the couch, stop watching TV & anesthetizing with snack foods, alcohol, sports, consumerism, and other various forms of unproductive distraction and TAKE TO THE STREETS.

  We’ve had the Tea Party do their protest, which, frankly is quite counter-productive to the personal interests of the majority of all those who took part in the Tea Party. However, European style protests & demonstrations are what America needs right now. Europe is a much more vibrant democracy than the USA because they’re not complacent. Now, I’m not saying violence is the answer, but active protest IS the answer!

  This really shouldn’t come as a surprise to anybody who follows foreign policy.

  The United States has been actively pursuing War with Iran for several years now, albeit through covert means. It’s well known among followers of US foreign policy that the CIA has been supporting terrorist dissident groups WITHIN Iran, most notably, one called Jundallah. Jundallah literally meaning Soldiers of Allah‎, though also known as People’s Resistance Movement of Iran (PRMI).

  In fact, the word on the Grapevine is that the Obama Administration has been planning some sort of military action against Iran for just right now. This is supported by the fact that the US & Israel gave Saudi Arabia & Egypt the greenlight for their first ever joint military excercises against Iran late last month.

  We have gas pipelines and oil to secure. We have surrounded Iran all sides. This makes total & complete sense. Nobody should be surprised.

  LASVEGAS LADY, my point was that THERE IS NO LIBERAL BIAS AMONG MAJOR NEWS NETWORKS.

  You can’t get a full, well-rounded perspective on any issue in this country. There are some things we’re not even allowed to talk about in the media. It doesn’t matter if you THINK some mainstream media outlet is liberal or conservative.

  FIERYRED, I didn’t say the media outlets were not biased.

  I said the media outlets ARE biased. They’re biased in FAVOR of powerful corporate & government military interests. This has relatively nothing to do with what’s usually referred to as “liberal” or “conservative.” However, it does mean that the mainstream media in the United actually are ALL Right-Leaning, whether it’s CNN, ABC, MSNBC, or Fox. It’s a function of the way the media are structured in America.

  You probably think my comments are boring because I actually bothered to take the time to explain what I meant. I give an institutional analysis and it gets denounced as “boring.“ Some things are a little more complex than getting to the ”bottom line“ in ”30 senconds or less.”

  Furthermore, ROFLCOPTER, the TRUTH is that you have to look at the MEDIA PRODUCT. The media paroduct is NOT what you see on TV or hear on the radio. The media product is YOU. The media product is US. The media product is the audience! The audience is being sold to ADVERTISERS. After all, when you personally tune in to the Ed Show or Glenn Beck, you‘re act of viewing doesn’t do one bit to PAY for the camera men, make-up, producers, directors, of those shows now does it? ADVERTISERS pay for all that. So we have media outlets owned by AND funded by multi-national corporations. In other words, the media are structured in such a way so as to PREVENT them from being TRULY liberal. You are being sold!

  I’ve seen the Ed Show! I like it, & he sometimes comes off as a REAL progressive. Ed Schultz talks about substantive issues, SOMETIMES. Most of the time he puts forth petty partisan gossip instead of in-depth analysis of the substantive issues he somtimes makes brief reference to in his show. However, why don‘t you go ahead and watch MSNBC’s commercials? MSNBC is brought to you by the pharmaceutical industry, the health insurance industry (United Healthcare), Lockheed Martin, Boeing (the military industrial complex), the Financial services industry, etc. In other words, Ed Schultz would lose advertisers if he ACTUALLY DID act like a REAL progressive on his show. However, the point is that The Ed Show still fulfills it’s duty: it sells the audience to the corporate advertisers.
