  • Okay, I am with you all on the unconstitutionality of this mandate. Both on the enumerated powers clause for any business and on the 1st amendment for religious-based institutions in particular.

What I am not getting is why a legitimte discussion about the real medical uses for birth control are being swept under the rug by the right wing pundits. It‘s like that aspect of the pill doesn’t exist in the right wing media world.

Dessert, are there no alternatives to birth control (besides holistic since – UNFORTUNATLY – holistic is beyond the scope of health insurance)?

This does not quite sway me ont he constitutionality of the mandates, but I think it is a legitimate concern for women and I can see why women might feel a bit encroached upon by the rigth wiog (those that, like Ms. Fluke, express this concern).

  • Ms. Fluke mentions a friend who had to have her ovary removed due to an Ovarian Cyst that grw unchecked. The remedy for the cyst was birth control pills (I think because of the hormones in them). The fact is that the pills are prescribed for more than preventing pregnancy. This whole point gets lost int he shuffle.

I am no fan of Birth Control pills, I think they are terrible for a women’s health. Hormones and fake hormones are terrible for women and I convinced my FIancee not to take them when she was prescribed them to deal with an issue (not related to preventing pregnancy).

Why is this portion of the debate not being legitimized by right wing media?

I mean are there alternative treatments? Was this oversight and is Limbaugh’s labeling this woman as hypersexual a distraction?

I am afraid these guys are losing integrity in my eyes. These are the same tactics employed byt he left, all the straw men and red herrings. We are supposed to be better than that. All of you are supposed to be better than that. Then again a bunch of Tea partiers are throwing their weight behind big government candidates like Santorum and Gingrich. I am about to turn my Tea Party badge in. We either got co-opted, or were never real to begin with.

  • I would have loved this. I was an action figure junkie when i was a kid. THEY ARE NOT DOLLS!

  • Wow, I am sorry. That guy could have nipped this whole thing in the bud. “Mr. Sharpton, do you know what an apple is? What about an orange? Would you ever compare the two – assuming you were not a complete and utter moron? Well let me introduce you to the apple, in your question – The secretary’s ample salary and corelating tax rate. Let me introduce you to your orange, Romney’s capital gains tax rate. From my understanding of the tax code, all investors get taxed 15% rate on their investment income. Perhaps your latest victim, the middle class secretary should invest and she too can enjoy getting a 15% tax on her investment earnings. My question to you Mr. Sharpton is, is your question fair or are you a complete and utter moron?”

Also of note, Romney gave $3 million to charity. That is a little over 10% of his income. Generous :)

Ron Paul 2012! Foreign Policy? Nope don’t like it. But… it is consistent with his principles and historically, the biggest enemy of a republic is not the foreign threat but the domestic one. Domestically, the good doctor is the All-Star.

  • I believe it was Winston Churchill who said that.

  • Snow, I should like to think that these documents are required of anyone running for POTUS. Like applying for any job (though government is ass-backward) I therefore conclude that he has them to become President legitimately.

BUT then there is ACORN/voter fraud… so… who knows what to believe. I think that in the wake of this whole thing, it should be a constitutional requirement that all candidates for federal offices make public the documentation that legitimizes their legal claim to the position they wish to hold. I don’t have any reason to believe he was not born in Hawaii. I mean, there were two separate local papers that announced the birth. So unless this was planned from the moment this man was born, it’s likely he was born in Hawaii. He probably might keep it locke/sealed not show it as a political move to draw out the conspiracy theorists and tie them in with the stereotype of the rightwing. I hear “They don’t even believe he was born in this country,” a lot on left radio.

  • White House Abandons Defense of Marriage Act

    February 24, 2011 at 1:56pm

    In reply to jblaze.

Freedom, my friends, can be a double-edged sword. It cannot discriminate. The defense of marriage act is stupid. I don’t want government defining what marriage is. The table could one day be turned and the government could opt to define it ONLY as a union between the same sex. God wants us Christians to be the light to the world, not to pass the buck to our government.

Where I debate with myself is the right of same-sex unions to adopt children. Being that they partake in a lifestyle that precludes procreation, I’d say that parenthood should be off the table. Though, I’d also make that assesment with Single mother/father adopters whcih are currently permitted to adopt. The Family has been dismantled consistently and is vital for the moral fabric of our nation.

And don’t come to me with “IT’S A GENE,” unless you explain how genes – the genetic inheritence of offspring gets passed without procreation and site specific sources. Some try to claim it is a mutation of an existing gene which amuses me that in defense of homosexuality, they – in essence – are calling it a defect. ANYTHING but a choice.

  • I am so glad I was made very aware of Social Security fraud in high school!

  • What will unfold will be a lot more interesting and tragic.

  • I am of the ilk that believes Government is a necessary evil. And when we approach it that way, we will always be cautious witht he powers we feed it.
