  • The media, as usual, misses the point about regulations. The issue isn’t whether or not over regulation is good, bad, harmful, or helpful. This is America – the issue is whether or not over regulation is constitutional and promotes freedom. We certainly need regulations to protect peoples’ constitutional rights (that is, after all, one of the jobs of the federal government), but once the regulations are telling people how to run their business, how to manufacture their goods, when they can go to market, or who can sale what, then it exchanges freedom for some politicians’ version of “fairness”. I never thought freedom would be so controversial in America.

  • @FooBear – “Natural Monopoly”. The last time I checked there was LOTS of competition in the mobile phone business. Not to mention the big ATT, Verizon, TMobile, and Sprint, there is also a very large regional market and pay-as-you-go market out there. There is lots of competition. However, I do agree with the logic that over charging in the hopes of these types of “accidents” is what will cause the govt to come in and regulate. But, that‘s only because we’ve forgotten about PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY. When I went on my cruise last year, I went to the Verizon store, talked to them about my plan, my options, and the charges. Because I took personal responsibility, I got all the info I needed so that I knew how to turn off roaming, turn off email, etc. and not get hit with a big bill. Nothing is stopping anyone else from taking personal responsibility and doing the same. As soon as America uses the “I’m dumb, I didn’t know” excuse – the govt will be more than happy to step in and “help” us (just like they fixed the banking industry by taking away retail profits and causing the banks to start charging fees to their customers).

  • So, wait a minute: OReily says that Wallstreet didn‘t break any laws and West went crazy and said that he can’t make that claim because he has no proof that they were innocent. First of all, we should be innocent until proven guilty in this country. But, then, West claims that he thinks they are guilty, but admits that he has no proof. So, West did exactly what he said OReily shouldn’t do. Way to go. We all agree that poverty is a problem – but, we disagree on the solutions. Some want socialism, some want freedom and personal responsibility.

  • I don’t even understand why anyone is concerned. He was making a comparison about how opposites getting together to play golf is weird. He could have said “it is like Jesus playing golf with Satan”. He could have said “it is like George Washington playing golf with Karl Marx”. There are lots of ways to make his point about how silly it is when opposites get together to play a friendly game of golf. He choice to make a modern comparison about Hitler. His point is still the same. He never said or implied that Obama was like Hitler. I don’t get it.

  • You need to also realize that Congress recently passed laws (Durbin Act) that take away interchange income from banks to “help” consumers. This government intervention in the industry has radically impacted the economics of providing debit cards – banks no longer get the interchange income from the merchants like they used to do. Washington legislation always impacts the everyday people.

  • Every kid in that class (even if they don’t believe in God) should come to school with “God Bless You” t-shirts to remind this teacher that we each have a 1st amendment right to believe and express our belief in whatever religion, or lack of, that we want. It is a 1st amendment right issue, not just a stupid teacher.

  • One comment on his foreign policy. He speaks from principle, not from practical downward rationing. If our founding fathers were here, they would talk principally the same way – we should not be in perpetual wars, we should be an enemy to none and a friend to all, etc. If you read our founder’s writings, we are to be like Switzerland. That said, Paul does not do a good job in explaining how we get from where we are today to where we should be. It took 80 years to get where we are now, it can’t be undone in one presidency term and he needs to explain that. But, Paul’s principles are solid.

  • Good for her!! Once again, people hate without a reason. He couldn’t find one reason, one lie, yet he actually wants her dead. Good for Bristol for politely asking for proof – of course there was none. What is happening to America? It is ok to disagree with Palin’s ideology, the right to disagree is what makes America great. But, to actually want her dead??? What has happened to America?

  • Mitt Romney: ‘I Want Everybody in America to Be Rich’

    In reply to Godfather.1.

Until 1913, income tax was non-existent, temporary, or very (very) low. And, even then, we had a military, paid our govt workers, and protected peoples’ rights and upheld the constitution. Income tax (at least at the rate it is today) is only needed if we let the govt do things that they don‘t need to do or shouldn’t do. I agree with a fair, flat income tax to protect the borders, protect our constitutional rights, and support the sick and unable. But, income taxes are out of control – should be a flat 5-7% or so.

  • In those polls, we are asking the wrong question. The question is NOT “do you support a constitutional ban of gay marriage?”. The question should be “Does the federal government have the constitutional right to legislate and control marriage of individual American citizens?”. I’d love to see the response of that question!! I don’t care if States vote for a ban, they have that right (though I believe that marriage is a religious bond, not a government “privilege”). But, the federal government does not have the right to legislate marriage. The beauty of America is that people are to be free to live out their lives THEIR way, even if I don’t agree with it.
