  • Just a quick FYI, being Christians is not yet a citizenship requirement.

Civil marriage is about the 1000+ benefits, privileges and rights afford couples with a state issued licenses. Civil Marriage is a Civil Right.

The only reason any of the many posters opposed to same sex marriage gives to prevent same sex marriage acceptance is that they have a superstitious aversion to homosexuality stemming from a legend about what their mythical prophets said some 20 plus centuries ago. Really? That’s a valid reason to deny equality to free Americans in the 21st century? I sure hope not.

How many of you really think the SCOTUS will deny equality?

  • Has a law been passed that says we all have to be Christians to be citizens? If it hasn‘t then I don’t have any compelling reason to give any consideration to the superstitions included in YOUR book of myths and legends. I also don’t give any credence to the legends of Thor from my Swedish ancestors or the superstitions of witches from my British family, being an atheist is an equal opportunity disbeliever. You have a lot of superstitions about sex that I don’t pay any attention to. And there is no reason I should. Unmarried sex, oral sex, multi-partner sex and other unmentionable permutations all with no intent to reproduce are currently legal in America between consenting adults. I assume that some of you prudes might not be aware of this but everything gay guys do, men and women do as well?

You are all offering no reason other than the superstitious fear of homosexuality based on the myths of your faith to prohibit complete equality. That is not a valid reason as your faith is not a requirement for citizenship. It all becomes moot when the Supreme Court rules that same sex marriage is is a right as was interracial marriage.

  • 70 protesters show up but 20,000 paid admission, seems there more desiring the show than offended by it. But remember the reaction to Elvis, he was evil and banned too.

  • If it’s religious why do you have to buy a civil license?

  • If marriage is a religious institution why do you have to pay the state a fee to register it in order for it to be legally recognized?

    Can atheists marry?

  • You should be able to, there is no sound reason today to not marry your cousins and polygamy should be acceptable. There is no compelling reason to limit a family unit to just two.

  • LadyLiberty, with one decision the Supreme Court legalized interracial marriage even though 17 states had laws on the books prohibiting mixed race marriage. Loving v. Virginia will form part of the precedent for the SCOTUS decision to make same sex marriage a right and with that those 32 states’ laws will be invalidated.

  • Why is it so difficult to just keep the sacred and secular separate? So maybe all the founding fathers were some form of Christian two centuries ago. Slavery was accepted, women were chattels and you could grow pot and brew whiskey at home. Things have changed in the last few hundred years. All the churches in America could join together in public spaces like parks and pray all they want to one day a year and I would not care at all. All the city council members, congressmen and others could join in personally and it is irrelevant. But the moment it hits the civil government property and when an elected official sanctions it then it moves to offensive.

Just keep your superstitions to yourself and we can all get along without all this contentious legal maneuvering.

Every single sociological study tracking Faith in western civilizations for the last two decades conclude that non-belief is the fastest growing category.

  • Forgot to add the overwhelming division of choices in President. Depending on survey there’s a 12 point gap at the low end and up to 62% support rate at 29 and younger. When you look at college educated or attending college [highest likely voters in that age group] it’s closer to 70% for Obama.
