  • As a Gator I have watched Tim since his freshman year. There are many stories about his commitment that have not been reported in the media. He is real and Mr. Press does him a disservice by hinting that he appeals to God for his own glory on the football field. I believe Tim wants only to serve God to the best of his ability and for the moment that means being the best football player he can be. He bows to God on the field, but I am sure he does so in his “closet” as well. God honors his commitment. That does not mean God made Marion Barber fumble or run out of bounds. However, it does mean that others can see God in Tim and that angers some like Mr. Press. Others, like his team mates, are lifted. The uniqueness of the Tebow story is not what Tim does on the field. We all know he does not have the skill of a Brady or Rogers. But, he seems to make those around him better and all who know him understand that if effort will make him into a Rogers, he will be a Rogers. This is not the same Bronco team of 2 months ago. Why are they now doing what they could not or would not do when the more skilled Kyle Orton was the QB? The answer is that Tim makes them believe. They believe in possibilities that seemed out of reach before he became the quarterback. Mr. Press certainly has the right to express his opinion, but I for one would far rather see “Tebowing” than the usual NFL egocentric chest pumping and Tim has the right to express his faith. Mr. Press should ask himself why he c

  • I do not believe that God is a Broncos fan any more that a Colts fan. Further, he is no more a Tim Tebow fan than he is a fan of everyone of his children. But Mr. Press does Tim a great disservice. He incorrectly assumes that Tim seeks God’s help to gain glory for himself as a football player. As a Gator, I have watched Tim since his freshman year and know many stories about his personal commitment that have never been reported in media. In my opinion, he seeks only to serve his God in the best way possible and for now that means being the best football player possible. His uniqueness is the very fact that he does not have the “skill set” that Tom Brady or Aaron Rogers possess. Yet, no one can argue that he is successful doing it differently and accomplishing what was not accomplished by Kyle Orton who was acknowledged to be far more skilled. What is the difference? Is it God? It is God, but it is not God making Marion Barber run out of bounds or fumble. But Tim is who he is because he believes strongly and that belief strengthens him and strengthens those around him. He seems to have the ability to make everyone around him better. Tim is doing what Tim Does. But look at the others on the team. The defense is not the same. No one is the same player they were 2 months ago. That is the secret to the current win streak. Tim does not pray to be seen. I suspect he prays the same on the field as in his “closet” and I, for one, like that better than the usual chest puffing.
