  • This was funny… in that you think Wicca had something to do with it.

I’ve been a practicing Wiccan for over two decades, experienced some of the worst tragedies an earthly life has to offer, and have yet been “open” to anything which you elude.

Have I experienced hauntings? Yes. Do I believe ghosts are real? Yes. Do I believe that Christians have a strong faith in their god? Yes. Do I believe each religion has their own effective ways of dealing with ghosts? Yes.

ANY ritual can have an adverse effect on spirits if not completed properly. It is the faith in these rituals, and the will of the affected, that make them work.

  • @Luke21
Our theology differs too much to have this discussion here. I refuse to proselytize my beliefs on a web site. But I appreciate your beliefs, and respect and defend them to my fullest ability. However, the pastor in this story gets that same respect from me. This was his way of communing with his god, and he felt it appropriate for the crowd he was before.

  • “Once upon a time, when men wore hats, they would take their hats off and bow their heads when they prayed. What kill joys, huh? Aren‘t we all glad we’re not like THOSE generations.”

I just gotta say, not much irritates me more than the disrespect displayed by not removing your hat.

  • I have not scorned your book in anything I have said, I have simply offered my view of what I have read… yes, I read the Bible, eleven times. I found it to be an interesting collection of stories passed down through history by oral and written tradition.

  • @Okie from Muskogee
People here talk as if your book dictates to them what must be done to worship god. His people have made him a ruler by their own interpretation. The Bible is not one book, as it is made up of many books and stories; and I do not believe we have seen even half of what was written at the time.
I appreciate your offer to find god, but I have already found the creators and worship them appropriately with words, music, art, critical thinking, and humor.

  • Islesfordian – I am so glad I don’t believe in this being you call god. It sounds like a staunch being who doesn’t know how to enjoy all that has been created. What you describe is a ruler, not a creator, in my opinion. Rulers cannot tolerate having flaws pointed out, while creators embrace those flaw in themselves.

And allow me another translation of that quote: “I tell you with certainty, whatever you prohibit on earth will have been prohibited in heaven, and whatever you permit on earth will have been permitted in heaven.” I know the difference between lose and loosed, but apparently scholars disagree with the translation.

  • “But he was speaking as a representative of the group before him. It wasn’t a personal one-on-one with God… I believe it was all for show and not heartfelt. Going for the reaction of the people and not God’s favor.”
It seems he may have represented the group before him fairly well, in a way that connected to them. I know that the chaplain on my last ship had a great line in his prayer blessing our departure from port: “… and for those Sailors new to the open seas, may God toss a bucket your way when you most need it.” Humorous with a message of protection, and directly appealing to the audience of the prayer.

  • Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. – Matthew 18:18

Since some of you only seem to believe in the ‘one book’, and don’t believe religion is a living concept… lose your sense of humor on earth, and you will lose it in your eternity.

  • Laughter is one of the best gifts given to us. If you cannot see that, then you have been blinded by your own ideals.

  • What is god looking for? Has he spoken to you lately? Maybe god appreciates life in all its forms, including the funny ones.
