‘It Is Not, Per Se, a Tax’: Sebelius Contradicts Administration’s Legal Defense of Obamacare
February 29, 2012 at 3:40am
Blazers – if you want to call this a tax, then you have to admit that the health care law is within the constitutional authority of the federal government.
Everyone knows the administration doesn’t want to call it a tax for political reasons. But if it’s a tax, as you all allege, then it’s constitutional. The government could easily do this by just raising income taxes on everyone and offering an equivalent deduction if you purchase health insurance. This would accomplish exactly what the mandate does. (I know this particular law wasn’t passed appropriately as a revenue bill originating in the House – and that‘s another reason it’s not a tax).
The only reason this is going to the Supreme Court is because Congress imposed the mandate under the Interstate Commerce Clause. Had Congress invoked its taxing power, this would not be controversial.
So to all Blazers, you can’t have your cake and eat it too. Either this is a tax, in which case you can’t complain about the unconstitutionality of the health care law. Or it’s a regulation under the Interstate Commerce Clause, in which case there is a legitimate debate over the law’s constitutionality. You can only pick one.

The point of her testimony – and the real issue here – is that insider trading restrictions do not apply to members of Congress. But they should. Who cares how rich she is? If you people weren’t gullible sheep, you’d realize that this story is beside the point.

@Locked, @MACCOW
Why don’t you guys just read Article V instead of pretending you know everything? No, amendments do not have to originate in Congress, they can be proposed by 2/3 of the states. And regardless whether the amendment originates in Congress or the states, it must be ratified by 3/4 of the states. Stop being ********. Stop acting like you’re smart. Learn to read.
Article V:
“The Congress, whenever two thirds of both Houses shall deem it necessary, shall propose Amendments to this Constitution, or, on the Application of the Legislatures of two thirds of the several States, shall call a Convention for proposing Amendments, which, in either case, shall be valid…when ratified by the legislatures of three fourths of the several States…”

High School Student Fights Bachmann on Gay Marriage Stance at Town Hall Meeting

Navyveteran,
First, humans aren’t animals. We shouldn’t base our society and rights on what animals do. And besides, haven’t you ever watched animal planet? A simple Google search for “homosexual sexual behavior in animals” will direct you to a wikipedia page with countless cited examples of homosexual animal practices. Again, that doesn‘t even matter because humans aren’t animals.
Second, arguments about heterosexual relationships being the most “natural” are tired. People used those same arguments against interracial marriages, to sanction slavery, advance Manifest Destiny, etc. They sure sound stupid now… Saying something is natural doesn’t get you anywhere. Natural to who? You? Homosexual relationships certainly feel natural to people who are homosexual. Don’t you think?
Finally, aren’t Republicans and libertarians supposed to advocate for less government restrictions and greater personal freedom? Don’t let the government tax me, don’t restrict my gun rights, don’t regulate business, don’t spend on welfare/social security/healthcare. But banning gay marriage is the proper role for government? Proponents of gay marriage just want the government out of their business. Can’t conservatives sympathize with that?
Another Gaffe? Obama Calls British Embassy ‘English’ Embassy
November 30, 2011 at 1:41pm
You guys are all correct here – the president of the United States is unaware that England is a part of Great Britain and that Hawaii is not a state. If that makes sense to you, then you must also admit that Rick Perry really didn’t know the voting age, Sarah Palin thought Paul Revere warned the British, and that Hermain Cain had no idea what happened in Libya. Stop nitpicking if you’re not going to be even-handed about it.
