  There’s a LOT of “preppy/city-boy“ crap in there that you can get at your local ”Army-Navy” store (if they still exist). There’s tons of old military equipment that you can buy for little or nothing, like a good backpack/ruck sack. Rather than sporting a $500 mossberg why not go with a $299 Remington Express (have a gun smith saw off the barrel if it’s too long for your taste). Having over 22 years in the Army I’d opt for a shotgun and extra shells rather than a 9mm.

  This pack is missing a few things:

  . entrenching tool (collapsible shovel for civilians).
  . an ax (boy’s ax is smaller) or large hatchet.
  . saw.
  . waterproof matches (what if your lighter malfunctions or gets lost?).
  . sandwich bag full of steel wool (amazing for starting fires when wood is wet).
  . sandwich bag full of dried wood (6″ 2X4 split into tiny pieces works best) for fire starting.
  . gun powder (multiple purposes).
  . small plastic magnifying glass (start fires).
  . small non-breakable mirror.
