  • In the Bible we are told to hear the word and believe: Heb. 11:6, Rom. 10:17, John 3:16. But belief alone is not enough. We are also commanded to repent- Luke 13:3 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all in like manner perish. Acts 17:30 The times of ignorance therefore God overlooked; but now he commandeth men that they should all everywhere repent. One must confess: Romans 10:9 because if thou shalt confess with thy mouth Jesus as Lord, and shalt believe in thy heart that God raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. And one MUST be baptized into Christ for the remission of sins: Acts 2:37-38 Brethren, what shall we do? And Peter said unto them, Repent ye, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ unto the remission of your sins; and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Galatians 3:26-27 For ye are all sons of God, through faith, in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ did put on Christ. 1 Peter 3:20-21 that aforetime were disobedient, when the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls, were saved through water which also after a true likeness doth now save you, even baptism, not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the interrogation of a good conscience toward God, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ. And Be faithful unto death Rev. 2:10. Why wait to obey the gospel? Acts 22:16

  • “Regardless of one’s religious or non-religious bent, the Ten Commandments are, for the most part, universally accepted as the cornerstone of any ethical and moral society.”

I have a problem with this because it assumes we are still living under the Law of Moses. The ten commandments can’t be separated from the WHOLE law, they are a part of the some 613 odd laws. Also the law was given ONLY to the Nation of Israel Deut. 5:2 The Lord our God made a covenant with us in Horeb. 3 The Lord did not make this covenant with our fathers, but with us, those who are here today, all of us who are alive… So these commands weren’t given to Abraham or Noah or Adam. So why are people so insistent upon following a law that was fulfilled on the cross? We live under Christ’s law now. Which also means no killing or stealing, but it goes a step further, that even if you have hate in your heart you have committed a sin. Yes I’m sure someone will say “So it’s ok to murder now?” No. It never has been. In fact look at Cain and Abel, (way before the ten commandments were given to Moses and the children of Israel) it was wrong for Cain to murder his brother. So no, I’d rather the perfect law of Christ be the one that is the cornerstone of any ethical and moral society. Heb. 8:7 For if that first covenant had been faultless, then no place would have been sought for a second.

  • We need more teenagers like her. Bravo for standing up for the truth no matter what others may think!

  • @ Dave- a “couple” of sinning villages? Gen. 6:11 The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence. 12 So God looked upon the earth, and indeed it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted their way on the earth. The whole WORLD was corrupt.

Second of all it was not a “little” boat. That sucker was 450ft long, 75 ft wide, and 45 ft high. The total floor space would be about 100,000 square feet.

Thirdly I have no clue where you got 7 million from but most have stated there are around 1-1.5 million species. Take a good portion of those living in the water (why take a fish aboard when it’s flooding?) so you really only need to take the ones that can’t survive in the water. Something else to think about, Noah could have taken 2 wolves and we have our dog population. So he didn’t need to take every single species (as scientists define species) on the ark. He took every kind. Also people assume that he took the fully grown adult version of each animal. He very well could have taken the younger animals. Given all this, there would have been plenty of room for all the animals and Noah and his family.

  • @ Philly- Like it was in the days of Noah, although he preached and warned them of what was about to transpire, they mocked him. Then without warning the heavens opened up and the flood waters rose. Those people had plenty of opportunity to hear, believe, and obey BEFORE the flood. When Jesus comes there will be no 1,000 year reign, there will be no second chances. That’s what Jesus meant by comparing His 2nd coming to the days of Noah.

Why has 2,000 years already passed? We read in Matt. 24:14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come. -So apparently the gospel has not been preached throughout the whole world yet. There are still precious souls to be saved. I also recommend reading all of 2 Peter 3 “Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation.” -Sound familiar? “But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night” When the floods opened it up it came without warning. When Jesus comes again it will be without warning for No man knows the day or hour.

To also answer your question about miracles, they were only for a short time (1 Cor. 13:8-10). Now that we have the perfect word of God there is no need for miracles. Jn 20:29 Jesus said to him, “Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”

  • @ PhillyAtheist and Encinom If you’re absolutely intent on “separation of church and state” then you need to demand that the Liberty Bell be taken down. It is, after all, inscribed with part of a Bible verse:

“Proclaim LIBERTY throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof.” Lev. 25:10

  • Might I make mention of a certain piece of our early history that not many people talk about? The Liberty Bell is an iconic symbol of American independence, located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Formerly placed in the steeple of the Pennsylvania State House (now renamed Independence Hall), the bell was commissioned from the London firm of Lester and Pack (today the Whitechapel Bell Foundry) in 1752, and was cast with the lettering (part of Leviticus 25:10) “Proclaim LIBERTY throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof.” It originally cracked when first rung after arrival in Philadelphia, and was twice recast by local workmen John Pass and John Stow, whose last names appear on the bell. In its early years, the Liberty Bell was used to summon lawmakers to legislative sessions and to alert citizens to public meetings and proclamations. (wiki) So this bell was used in a place where our Founding Fathers drafted the Declaration of Independence AND the Constitution…. and this bell, in a government building used by our government for a time had part of a Bible verse cast on it. This should be the final nail in the coffin. Our government did not create an environment where Christians are told to sit down and shut up about their faith if they are in government positions. Quite the opposite. Since our gov’t is “by the people for the people” Christian politicians have just as much right to proclaim their faith in public as anyone else.

  • I‘m assuming that you’re implying it’s hypocritical for conservative women to speak out on political issues simply because you took these verses out of context? The verses you quoted are talking about a woman’s role in religious/worship matters. If a woman were to keep silent always then she would not be able to accomplish Col. 3:16 A woman is not allowed, however, to assume an Eldership position (for the Bible clearly states that an Elder must be a husband of one wife- So that excludes women Titus 1:6; 1 Timothy 3:2) nor is she allowed to publicly preach. There are certain roles for both men and women (some things women can do that men can’t and vice versa) but a woman being in subjection to a man does not mean she’s inferior in any way, no. In fact Christ was subjected to the Father and He was not deprived of dignity Philippians 2:5-11 But to say that a woman can‘t have opinions in political matters or can’t speak out on day to day events is reading into something where it’s not.

  • @MrGeek- Sorry I didn’t respond until now (family medical issues) but no, I don‘t believe in God simply because it’s a safety net. I believe because there is a God and He is alive. My statement was simply to rouse a curious question out of reddenblack. I wouldn’t want to be a person to disbelieve just to find out I was wrong and I was just simply stating what if he is wrong that there is no God?

  • Reddenblack: “Can someone please explain to me why that scares people so much?”

What happens if you’re wrong? Would you take a chance and live your life like there was no God just to find out after death there is and you are condemned for eternity? Or would you rather be prepared that way you don’t have to worry after death? It’s not the “lack of God” really that scares people it’s the “what if I’m wrong about the “lack of God” that scares people.
