  • Atheism has nothing in it which prescribes any actions or dogmas that should be followed. Beliefs inform your actions, so how can not believing in a god lead someone to take any actions? There is no logical progression from not believing in a deity to the outcomes of what communist dictators accomplished. If you hold no positive belief about something, how is that going to make you do anything? This myth about atheism causing the atrocities of soviet russia, or other similar regimes is nothing more than that, a myth.

    Atheism is simply not theism, there is nothing to atheism other than a rejection of god claims. In order to determine causality, you must demonstrate that atheism is both neccesary and sufficient to be identified as the cause. Please demonstrate this logically.

  • Atheist’s can find beauty in nature without having a belief that a God is responsible. How many atheists do you know on a personal level? I’m asking because it seems you have some misconceptions that may distort your views and opinions.

  • McConnell AFB, KS atheist here. There are more non believers in our military than many think or know about. Many have been in foxholes and similar battle environments.

  • How do you define religion? Let’s get that out of the way first. Then we can look at whether atheism falls under that definition.

KIBS – “what the heck, things are created everyday from our environment. man creates living beings in labs… creationism exists, like it or not… things evolve and adapt, like it or not. both are very much a part of nature… seeds are the root of all life. once you understand that, you will see.”

    Things aren’t created at all, they are simply rearranged from pre existing matter. As Carl Sagan once said “If you want to make an apple pie from scratch, you first have to invent the universe” Meaning, everything humans build or “create” is just reconfiguring material already available. Which I’ve always wondered, if there was an absolute absence of anything, except for God, how did he create matter and energy from nothing (creatio ex nihilo). I would think that would be logically impossible, but maybe someone here can explain it.

  • Whether someone considers marriage a basic fundamental right or privelege is irrelevent. The constitution (14th amendment) clearly states:

    “No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.”

    Unless I missed something here, the votes for Prop 8 or any of its predecessors were invalid votes anyways. If the federal government uses laws to instutionally discriminate against any group of American citizens, or these things are put to a vote, that is very much un-American.

  • Polygamy is a good question. I don’t see why the govt. should ban any consenting adult(s)(18+) from entering into these legal agreements, if they love each other and follow the laws. These are issues this country needs to debate and talk about. We get no where by simply pandering to popular opinion in matters such as this.
