  • Well said! The church consists of people, not the organization. People have flaws and therefore, the church will always falter sometimes. But it is the strength and good character of everyday people that will prevail.

  • I am a Catholic AND a 3rd degree Mason. Nothing in the values or traditions of the Masonic Lodge causes me to think that you cannot be both. The Masons are NOT a protestant organization.

  • You have some serious issues, bud. As the parent of an autistic son…I can tell you for a fact that he is a true angel sent by God. There is more love in his little heart than most people will ever experience or give.

  • @Publius…

I thought and here’s my answer to you:

The issue is NOT about the choice of using the abortion servicess, or contraceptives…it is about the government forcing a religious institution to PAY FOR IT and provide it. It’s called hypocricy where I come from; to oppose something and then actually provide it.

  • It’s the new and improved Tammy Faye Baker look (without the melting eyelashes)…

  • @MISHA

You are correct in that he doesn’t DIRECTLY ask for money…but he DOES ask you to buy all of his publications, books, videos, etc. That tells me the money goes to HIM and not his church. His “shows” remind me of those “free” seminars that hawk their wares to you to “find the real answer”.

I have personally met Joel (a long time ago) and yes, he is a good and decent person who means well. But he has found a methodology to make himself fabously wealthy at the cost of many other decent peoples hard earned wages. Does that make him bad? No, but it does make him morally corrupt in my opinion.

  • Beware of false prophets…
I would not classify Olsteen’s church a “cult”, but more of a large group of shallow, self-centered people who believe that God will make them RICH and FAMOUS if they follow Olsteen’s way. The only one getting rich and famous is Olsteen by preaching only “happy, happy, happy” giberish. True JOY is not always obtained through popularity, happy thoughts and material wealth. If you want to see someone who realized real, true and deep joy, read about Mother Teresa.

As a born and raised evangelical protestant, who has converted to Catholicism, I have seen the good and the bad of mega-chucrh religion. It is sooooo easy to get caught up in the wave of emotions and good feelings from revivalist style preaching. But it is most often just like going to a pep rally or exciting football game. Depsite its many flaws (because all humans are flawed), the Catholic Church still embodies the original Christian movement as taught by CHrist to the apostles. I suggest everyone watch Father Robert Barron’s recently released amazing series on the church simply titled Catholicism. http://www.wordonfire.org

I know this will get a lot of negative replys, but please be kind and remember we are all brothers and sisters of Christ here to love each other.

  • Hatred for any specific group JUST BECAUSE THEY ARE A SPECIFIC COLLECTION OF ETHNICITY is racism and is wrong. So using his logic, does he also think all pro basketball teams are bad because the vast majority of the players are blacks? Is the NYPD corrupt just because they are heavily Irish? Just because an ethnic group of people congregate towards a certain occupation or business doesn’t make them corrupt!!!

This is America…we are free to PURSUE happiness! It is not necessarily guaranteed as a right as these extremists believe.

  • KETCHUP? Is she friggin’ serious?!?
The funniest thing about Colbert’s clip is that these 2 “respresentatives” of OWS are being very serious about what they are saying and doing. My hat is off to Colbert for making fun of these whacked-out extremists. They need to be made fun of.

  • Folks…I am a conservative (really), but I am an alumni from Washington University and they are a Private University (not public) and the entire campus is private property. They have every right to limit videoing or taping on their property. Now I do disagree with the way Wash U handled this situation, but I also take issue on how the blogger here went about this in a very disrespectful and uncivil manner.

Note that the “policeman” is not state or local police…he is a campus policeman (rent-a-cop). See the WUPD on his hat.

Wash U folks please note that I am not proud at this moment to be a Wash U grad for: #1) allowing a avowed communist to be “placed on a pedestal” at my university and #2) advertising an event as free and open to the public and then treating the public in such a manner, no matter how they act. Free speech is free speech and as Wash U has the right to let someone like VJ speak, the rest of us have a right to ask questions and record this event.
